Damien is canonically trans?
Hey so on the first date with Damien he tells you, "To be able to wake up in the morning, pick from my closet a variety of cloaks, top hats, and even binders that are period appropriate feels amazing..." Unless there's some sort of Victorian clothing item I'm unaware of that is also referred to as a "binder", I'm not sure what else this could mean.

As a trans guy, I can't tell you what it's like to casually come across representation like this! The binder options for the character creation already made my day but now I feel like I'm having a fever dream.

Anyone else find other trans related things so far in game about the characters?

*realizes this whole time I've been unknowingly been selecting the binder bod cause I liked how it showed more skin and didn't even known I had selected the "binder bod"

Guess this means he is trans though, which is awesome! "period appropriate binders" sounds pretty specific. /totally missed this part when I read the OP's post.

Here's a bit of a discussion of corsetry. There's not a whole lot on men wearing them (as in general by the latter part of the 1800s and beyond men who wore corsets were subject to ridicule) and it's still currently viewed as more of a fetish, but it does lightly cover the topic.

The reason why you're not finding much on the topic is because (as mentioned before) there are some pretty ingrained social stigmas about men who wear corsets.

The second-to-last paragraph on the page should answer a *little* about it.

Thank you! Even so, it's weird they'd call it a binder, since that generally refers exclusively to chest binders, but idk

I love the trans representation, but I'm biased as a trans guy lol. Incidentally, my binder is a tank-top one anyway but I still went for the one labelled "binder" when creating my dadsona (who is basically me but older haha). But yeah I loved that Damien was trans and that my dadsona could be trans, too! I haven't noticed any other mentions of trans stuff, but I'm just happy with what we have!

All the bod options and choices are trans friendly as transitions are not necessary to be trans. Both binder and regular bods can be trans. I'm a bit bummed there are no makeup options for your Dadsona especially since he, in canon, tells himself he'd look great in purple eyeliner.

Unfortunately, "binders" actually refer victorian era corsets, as a couple of people have mentioned before. Men did occasionally wear them, but not very often; but typically, they wear a different design then women's corsets, which hug as tight around the waist as possible and accentuate your bust and hips. Men's corsets actually were not as tight, but they were firm fitting, and they were made to make a man look more lean-ish via flattening the tummy, and the shape overall would make his chest seem bigger, and making the stand up straighter to make them seem taller; making him look more masculine as a result. I actually can tell by Damien's design that it does indeed look like very much like he's wearing a male corset. Men's corsets weren't HUGE in the Victorian era, but they definitely existed; it's just that steampunk has made them quite popular.

Also, someone mentioned earlier about Damien wearing something that's a part of steampunk fashion doesn't make sense due to that not being his beloved style. I just wanted to clear that up; steampunk is very heavily influenced by the Victorian era, perhaps more then any other historical fashion trend. There are MANY different genres and sub genres of steampunk, not all of them will even have the cogs and wheels and blimps. In this modern day and age, dressing entirely in true to history Victorian clothing, actually is technically a form of steampunk. The other parts that can be added would just change the kind of steampunk it is; goggles, cog buttons, laser gun, etc can narrow it down to cyber steampunk or apocalyptic steampunk or western steampunk or practically anything you can think of. So most of Damiens clothes will have a steampunk style.

One of the creators answer the same question on twitter (@graylish) a few days ago, and yes, he is trans! :3

Having not only trans representation, but representaion of gay trans characters, is so important. One of the things that made it so hard for me to realize my gender, and then come out of the closet, was the fact that I am gay.
