Fishing and Sharks
It was a pain before keeping up with his fish appetite. Stabbing fish is hard enough before you need air. Now after 2 fish the sharks there to kill you. Not to keen on that part of update. Also with new update game crashes when I try to continue from last save. I have to close it and restart. So from fun to bum with update.

I had problems with the fishing but a tip from frillen made it easier. I place a buoy over each fish school and label them fish 1 and fish 2. Then I just swim or sail to the buoy, drop over the side and spear two fish before the sharks arrive. Go to the other spot and repeat. I only get 4 fish this way but it's enough to keep me fed.

Same you can do with the crates (mark with buoy) to get daily supply food.

The solution is to make the sharks killable. They are still invincible for some reason.

Yes need a way to defend from sharks. Have max abilities with flippers and still cant keep away from the sharks as they attack. Reached end game with all stuff in less than 22 hrs play time so kinda disappointed in that, but realize game is in development early release so need patients.

It would be a big difference if we were allowed three or four fish before the sharks arrive.

This. This. This.

If you want to argue I can't take sharks on with a spear, I still have dynamite; why can't I coat it with raw fish to lure them close so I can blow them up?

With the way dynamite fishing works (and why it's illegal in real life), you only need the sharks near to the dynamyte - simply go fishing, get the sharks near, and then pop a stick of dynamite. There you have it - Shark Salsa!

Here's an interesting study on how to repel sharks. Setting off dynamite might kill them but it won't scare them off :(

Shark deterrent research reveals interesting results
June 17, 2015 by Jess Reid, University of Western Australia

1. Bright flashing (strobe) lights can be effective as shark deterrents and do deter sharks from biting. However, the effectiveness of strobe lights appears to be restricted to strongly nocturnal and/or benthic bottom-dwelling shark species.

2. Loud underwater sounds (both artificial sounds and natural orca calls) were not effective at deterring small sharks in the laboratory and had only a limited deterrent effect in the wild.

3. Some bubble curtain arrays were effective in deterring sharks, but only for a very short time, after which sharks became used to the bubbles and did not hesitate to cross the bubble barrier.

4. The Shark Shield, an electrical device which can be attached to an ankle, surfboard or kayak, had a significant effect in deterring a range of shark species, including tiger sharks and white sharks, although further testing is still required to be statistically confident in the species-specific effects.

Interesting. I didn't know about the electrical anklet things, that seems pretty cool.

But in terms of the game, I figure a dead shark is pretty strongly detered. In games, I'm less concerned with shark conservation than IRL.

I was hoping I'd discover that the sound of dynamite scares sharks off. But they are too tough to scare.

So as you say, death = best deterrent

edit: or maybe we can attach a bunch of batteries to our bodies, lol

No need for dynamite. Historically people hunted sharks with stone spears and eventually bronze spears. Even today, Japanese fishermen kill tiger sharks with metal spears, as shown in a recent Motherboard documentary on their annual shark cull. One of the fishermen said you want to stab them several times quickly and they'll bleed out pretty fast.

Dang. That's pretty badass. BLS needs more shark stabbing.

Growing is way to expensive. Unless you really enjoy gathering that much wood, distilling that much water, and cutting that much seaweed for the mill. I am all for growing crops, but let the fishies die until cost is more reasonable. 1 fish gives +20 hunger - Growed crops dont give enough + hunger for the energy supplied to grow them, so not worth mentioning.
