Avoiding sharks while catching fish

The fish seem plentiful now but as soon as you spear one the sharks are on you, I am really liking this game, but almost all of it is taken up just collecting fish, and dying along the way. Is there a trick to getting the fish and avoiding the sharks. Also I am at a loss to work out how to use the map table, once your base is out of sight there is a good chance you may never find it again in all that ocean. Any help greatly appreciated :)

When sharks congregate at the one zone, go to the other and spear a bit. If a black tip does show up, and there's only one, what you can do is swim toward the Blacktip to ward him off, and then spear the fish at the far end of the shark, while still swimming away from the shark..

In all honesty, Dynamite fishing would be a nice feature, or maybe a fishing rod (with the use of bait fish obtainable from the reef).

The game is very tedious and time consuming when it comes to harvesting anything in game. They really need to adjust it more.

There are two schools of edible fish in the starting area, and you can spear two fish before the sharks arrive (usually). So I only try to spear 2 fish, then I look around and if no sharks have arrived I try for fish #3. I go to the second fish school in the starting area and repeat. I can get 4 fish at a time easily, and sometimes I get many more because the sharks don't arrive for some reason.

The map table is great! You should see 4 grey markers on the map and you need to explore each of those locations on the sea floor. Two locations have VERY useful loot, and two locations have a "mystery". You will get a compass at one of these 4 locations. With the compass you get a directional display in the HUD and when you place little orange markers on the maps (LMB click should place markers) you will see the markers in your HUD. Also any named Buoys will show up. You need to find that compass!

Nope, not happening for me.
I tried the switching of zones, not 1 shark in zone.
Raft right above my head, i spear 1 fish and i get attacked before the fish even bleeds out.
1st fish and i can't even swim like ..... 5-10 meters up to my raft....

Unplayable, i am quiting this game untill it is fixed.....

I can't find any fish at all, and I'm starving to death. Where are they in relation to the beginning raft?

I don't know if you still are having problems, but there are only two schools of edible fish in the starting area and they don't move around. There is one batch over by the underwater bombs, it's hard to give better directions. It's east of your location, so notice the direction of sunrise. The other fish school is north-northwest of your raft. Someone has posted a map here that shows the location of everything.
edit--once you find the schools place buoys at the locations so you'll find them again.

I don't know, I have been getting fish fine, 2 or 3 at a time if I am lucky. Spear some fish while swimming to somewhere for something, get that something, swim back and spear a few more, get some water or some more seaweed on the way. Rinse and repeat for the next day.
