The crewmember from New Guinea at least had tattoos as an indicator.
The other Stewards are from Northern Europe; England, Wales, Ireland, and Sweden.
In a line up of 5 Northern Europeans and 1 Indian, you could probably spot the Indian.
You're not wrong. I actually had the Irish steward listed as Indian because of the picture quality in the book. Thats also why he's not unblurred the instant you get the book, only once you actually see his face clearly in a scene.
Realistically, the game isn't putting this as the primary way to figure out his identity, just the first one available.
