1 triangle difficulty that's actually 3 triangles
So wow... Chapter V.4. I can't decipher this guy at all. He's only in 5 memories, has no dialogue that I can tell, he's never mentioned, can't even really discover what happened to him aside from what we can see in this one memory. I had to guess at what happened to him leading to his death and have absolutely NO IDEA how to identify him. The game says to wait on the 3 triangles until later but that's not possible in all instances.

On a side note, I have 39 fates correctly identified. Here's the crew numbers I have correct: #1-3, 5, 6, 8-12, 14-16, 18-26, 29, 33, 35-38, 42, 45-49, 51, 54, 56, 58, 60.

The more you figure out in this game, the harder it gets. I've never seen anything like this before. You'd think the more I confirm the easier it'd get. Any hints would be appreciated.

Give us a screenshot of the guy or something at least

I was trying to avoid spoilers just in case, but alright. https://i.imgur.com/m53DB6y.png

Check the dialog during his death scene again, carefully.

I've looked at this a ton of times. I used to think the captain was talking to the man who dies in this scene, now I think he's talking to the man who is visually being carried out. There's one other thing I'm trying for this identity, which I thought I'd tried before, but I need 2 more people confirmed to be sure if it's right, and no idea how that'll happen. Any hints for this guy from VI.6 https://i.imgur.com/gwtxwNJ.png and this guy from VII.5? https://i.imgur.com/miok5N4.png

Oh yeah now I remember why the rest of that description bothered me, and why I can't find that dead guy's identity. The 4th Mate, John Davies, isn't in this scene, and the other John's rank is a nobody, so what would this dead guy have to do with him? Nothing I can tell. So chances are, the conclusion I came to for this 1 triangle difficulty guy is completely wrong.

So yeah, I'm still completely on ground zero for this 1-triangle guy.

I do not understand your train of thought here at all, neither do you say what your conclusion actually is so it's difficult to comment upon

The other who fellows you posted can be identified through their role on the ship by observing what they're doing

The man the captain is talking to is being carried away in the scene, so that steward can't be the man who died. The last thing the surgeon says is addressing someone named John, saying all's fine. But the only John (somewhere in this scene) is John Naples, seaman from Wales. Seamen don't have mates or stewards, and the only other man from Wales is Paul Moss, 1st Mate's Steward, who I already have identified. As well, I can't use the foreign language here as a clue, it's just Danish, which refers to Lars Linde who I already have identified already. So I'm completely at a loss who this erroneously-marked as one 1 triangle difficulty man is. I can't identify him no matter what I try.

I'm so close to resorting to brute-forcing 19 characters.

Who is the surgeon addressing? What is the context of what he is saying? Why is he saying the thing he's saying?

Well the surgeon is talking to John. But John can't be the dying man because the surgeon refers to the dying man in the 3rd person, "Where's the rest of his leg?"

This is probably too late, but I made the same mistake that you did. The surgeon talks to both of the men. The surgeon is talking to the dying man initially (which is why it's 1 Triangle) and then the last line about the leg is to the person holding him
