What's the best way to use Bookmarks?
Up until this point, every memory I've come across I've been bookmarking out of habit. But I'm wondering if this is making my book too clutered and am making things too confusing to follow. What do you think is the best strategy as far as Bookmarks are concerned, are a lot of bookmarks fine, or is it smarter to just bookmark the memory that you're currently working on? Thanks.

However you use them is up to you, I guess - whatever works for the individual player as long as they get the end results right. Just another tool in your arsenal.

They way I used them and the reason Lucas put them in, I guess, is to simply track a character throughout the game. Since the bookmarks are based on appearances they help you identify some people that have certain routines, stay in certain places, have their names called out at some point and so on - not necessarily in their death scene.

It also helps to find that a character was present in a certain scene without being directly visible.

It's worth noting that for some characters the bookmarks might actually not help much if relied on too heavily. There are a few characters whose fates can be determined only in the scenes following their deaths, which the bookmarks will obviously not show.

Also to note, you do not bookmark an individual memory (I think?), but rather you will bookmark a particular individual by appearance -- so choosing someone from one of the portraits and bookmarking them will reveal all memories that individual shows up in.

Also note, when you do this you are removing the previous bookmark selection, so you would only have one person active at a time this way.

I used it to figure out people's identities if they were unblurred but I didn't know who they were yet, so I could go back to the memories that contained them. Especially helpful for all the seamen.

I use it when I have what I belive to be all the memories of one of the people so I can quickly go through all their scenes

It wasn't until I read this question that I realized I never took the time to fully understand the bookmark system, and didn't use it at all. I think I may have missed the tutorial messages about the bookmarks.

Uhm, you cannot "bookmark everything" and make it "cluttered". Every time you bookmark a person, the old bookmarks get deleted.

You usually use it if you want to figure out a specific person. Bookmark it and you can easily jump (in the book) to any memory that person is a part of.

I used it to cross reference people. Bookmark the 3rd mate then look at the pictures, list memories and found out which steward was around him the most without having to go into memories. I did it for a few people in the end (brothers included).

I personally never used the bookmarks. I found the deck map much more useful, what with the arrows pointing to places in order of time. I'm also more of a spatial thinker in general, so grouping the memories by where they appeared on the boat helped me, as did remembering the people by their places in the sketches rather than facial features or accents.

Point is, I don't think there is a single "best way" to use the tools at our disposal, just the way that works best for you.

Definitely. I didn't use the deck map at all, for example (except to find the bodies to enter a scene).
