[spoiler] Indentifying the Bosun's mate
So, the game unblurs the faces in the sketch when you are supposed to have enough information to identify the given individual. For the Bosun's mate, this occurs in chapter VI part 2, where the topman Nicholas something is speared by a beastly crab rider. The only earlier indicator of this being the bosun's mate is that they are next to each other during the fight against the kraken in chapter VII part 8 (where Abigail is killed). What am I missing to allow identification at that point?

Still don't understand why he is only unblurred in the scene I mentioned.

Also it is possible to deduce frenchman's id as soon as you hear about his demise. Since in all kraken scenes out of all dead people you only see 4 who could be torn apart by kraken, all other died in different ways. Only 2 of them fit description of "frenchman". Deducing the id of the other guy is a matter of time, and since he never shares a scene with a bosun isnt so hard anyway.

In the scene you arre refering to he actualy performing a duty of a bosun mate, so i guess thats a reason for unbluring.

Honest to God, I figured the bosun's mate was a Frenchman because he was wearing a striped shirt.

Yeah the fact that he's the only person on board wearing a breton shirt is a dead giveway. He's also one of the few people whose voice you don't ever hear, and there's a notable lack of anyone who sounds French.

Went back and looked. In the scene where he is unblurred, he is standing next to the goat cage. There is a rope on the deck and some sailors nearby. It becomes clearer in the part 1 memory, where a chineses topman is struck by lightning. If you look down on the deck during that scene, you'll see the bald guy guiding the rope while directing the sailors pulling on it. Typical bosun's mate duty, but ambiguous if you've only seen VI part 2.

He does it again when they load the mermaids, and in these scenes he's always right next to the bosun (which he is a lot). Is the 'en (un) daemon' line in early scenes of 'Soldiers of the Sea' him too?

'En Daemon' is Danish, there is a Dane on board. Is he in that scene?

I think so, thanks for clearing that up 😀

Yes, the Dane is in the scene crawling backwards on the ground away from the beast, and the phrase (En Dæmon!) is indeed Danish according to Google Translate which I pulled up on my phone late in the game, long after I solved the bloody Dane's identity in his obvious scene. I was really hoping it was french so I could solve the friggin' Bosun's Mate, which took me FOREVER.

I had such a hard time with the Bosun's Mate. After easily identified the Bosun and figured out roughly where his "Baguetteman" should have died, I went back and rewatched all the Kraken scenes trying to figure it out. But I had the Bosun's Mate labeled as "Unknown Seaman" and I was so extremely confident he was a seaman, that I could never figure it out. The Bosun's Mate is in a million scenes, but he's often doing manual labor right alongside all the seamen.

I only got the Bosun's Mate's identity when I was somewhat randomly slotting in the last few seamen or so. I had an epiphany when I knew I had absolutely, positively identified two correct identities and modes of death, but couldn't get any of the remaining seamen names to activate on the Bosun's Mate. Then I thought "Huh, what if this guy is the Bosun's Mate..." and it then correctly activated his fate verification. I immediately realized Oh, baguette shirt.......

You hear him speak in a French accent multiple times. Notably, in chapter 6 part I, where he's directing the crew "Secure the main braces and lower the topsail. Work fast, the wind is alive!" He also directs the seamen in the first part of chapter 5, saying "Heave! Heave together!"

You actually hear him in the memory where the Topman is struck by lightning, he's directing the rope pull, a Bosun/Bosun's mate duty.

Oh really? I stand corrected.
