Speared vs. Spiked?

Is it just me or is the distinction between these causes of death very thin? I'm never really sure which one to pick, especially with those spiders in Chapter 6.

Yes, I found it very poor also.
Speared = a big, 5ft+ spear pole
Spiked = 1-2ft spikes

I generally found no problem with it. The spears are much more pronounced, and if you look at it. Most of the spikes tend to come out in sets of 3.
The the crab-riders only carry two spears and they're mostly utilized at the start of their encounter.

Many fates have multiple correct answers. With the spikes/spears, in almost all cases, either will work.

Speared is clearly correct because Spiked always defaults to death by Beast, meaning you can't pin it on the Captain

I felt there were a couple were decapitated looked correct based on where the beast's pincers were, wasted quite a lot of time on those :(

Is that the same with crushed by cannon vs crushed by beast early on when the beast crushes someone with a cannon?
