"X" in Dialog Log
When you review a memory in the book, the log of the spoken intro has an X next to a seemingly arbitrary collection of individual lines. At first I thought that this was some kind of button that would replay the audio, but am I meant to assume that the X indicates that the line is spoken by the memory's subject?

I'm like 4 hours in and just making the connection that that's the only other context in which Xs are used in the game (as a listing of how many dead there are in a particular chapter). If so, I guess I'm just a little surprised that this isn't tutorialized since it's really ONLY something you could get from reviewing the memory in the book, not from experiencing it directly.

Yes.

I think the X mark means what the dead in question said in the momentu before death

The **X** indicates that the deceased person in the scene spoke those words. You can figure this out in-game after keeping track of who's talking and what's going on in the scenes, at which point it becomes another tool in your toolbox for keeping voices and events straight.
