Recycle ability question

So I learned recycle ability, description says
"Recycle: You can use this ability on grenades and some weapons to break them down into
their components. These can be used to build different weapons. Unfortunately, recycling
grenades will waste the chemical filler."
I tried using it on all weapons I've seen so far (crow, vulture, thumper smg, ettin shotty, python) and I always get "you cannot recycle that item" message.
Does this ability only work on some other weapons or am I doing something wrong?

if memory serves me right, you can only recycle craftable energy weapons like the Tsunami, Junebug P-Laser, Junebug pistol, Tesla Gun, and one I probably forgot but exists

You're probably right, skill description is kinda confusing though.

If you use the Silencers, Upgrade Pistols, or Upgrade Rifles abilities, you can use Recycle to get the parts back, also.
