Voodoo builds practically require a secondary combat ability due to their hefty meta cost. I personally invest in melee as a form of extra challenge, but guns are easier, and don't cost meta to throw bullets.
Either way, I'd spec at least a little into agility, because most (useful) spells have a limited range, and you don't want to be getting shot at any longer than you have to.
So yeah, don't rely 100% on voodoo. It'll let you down, or just be a really long waiting game.
