Do Forfeits Not Count Towards Losing Counter?

I had heard there was an achievement for losing a designated amount of times, and got the first 2 in the line (losing once, & losing 5 times) in my early runs messing around.

Now that I am skilled enough to finish just about any run I start, and have gathered most achievements but these, I notice after forfeiting ~10 games that achievement hasn't incremented? Do you literally have to (purposely or not) die in a combat for it to count? Takes so much more time than just forfeiting immediately, why design it like that?

I'd be happy to write this off as another achievement bug if it meant this is not working as intended. On a related note, are Syndicate faction kills STILL bugged? I know they were previously, and I'd seen the completion percentage go up marginally for the 10 kills, but still have yet to get even that one 5 runs later, despite consistently finding bonus cave on Menku and choosing Syndicate enemies on flagship.

Can confirm that abandoning a mission does count as a defeat. You have to do it while in combat. What I did was start a new campaign on a different save slot, beat the first planet in order to get all of the dialogue and basic tutorial stuff out of the way. Then I simply engaged some enemies, went into the start menu and select abandon mission. Then I started another run and abandon the mission with every 'first' encounter. Then repeat until you get the achievements. I got the Quantum Leaper and Quantum Voyager achievements within ten minutes.
These are very easy achievements but they are also very silly, as they are giving you incentives to lose. Very strange indeed.

This makes total sense though, as abandoning is not the same as a defeat.
