Corrupted Save File
36 hours in. On the final boss of my 12th run and on the verge of winning until I get a power outage. Boot my system up again to find my save file corrupted. Guess I'll go do homework now.

Is this the Steam version or Gamepass? Can you email us your savegame to support@massdmg.com?

ok great, we'll need the bug report file from you, hit CTRL-F12 and it'll generate a bug report folder on your desktop, zip it up and send it to us as well

Same. Blue Screened in the middle of a fight and now the save is corrupted. Says the date is 1/1/0001.

It was on the live version not the beta patch.

Probably going to be backing up my save from now on after every run.

I got a similar problem that kicked my 39 hour save right into the bin.

I'm in the middle of the first Behemoth fight. All commands for the round are given. The first action executes normally. It's time for the second and nothing happens. The music and the sprites idle animations are running and nothing else.
I can't do anything.

Everytime I close and restart the same thing happens.

It shouldn't be corrupted in the middle of a fight. I highly suspect it wasn't saving in the middle of that or that would be really weird development style. And if its not writing it then it can't be corrupt.

I can see manually saving in the middle. I do that with very specific games but writing saves is normally far faster than you even think. Its generally highly difficult to even manually force a corrupt save situation.

It would be interesting if they can reproduce it using your saves. I feel like that won't happen because it shouldn't be the saves in your case.

It could be possible to get corrupt from a disk issue. If that caused the BSOD. If you're on an ssd drive, they can act weird when they have an issue. But if the game wasn't writing to it at the time (very short window) then the game shouldn't have caused it.

A hard drive writes x MB per second. So a save window can be milliseconds really but the save code could loop and do things so its difficult to say how long without studying it or the dev testing the time. But also, the game should do all of that first before actual writing begins.

The game apparently has an auto save feature that activates in the middle of battles. I'm not sure to what extent this happens (i.e. if its every turn or if its at the completion of a battle) but I can tell you that I had a moment where the game glitched after completing a battle which forced me to alt+F4. when I rebooted and loaded my save file, I was brought back to the final turn of the last battle in which the enemy died and my game continued as normal. With all that being said, I had a power outage a few days ago and the game must have saved during one of those autosaves because once I rebooted my system and loaded the game up, I had the same issue that Sair had with my game data listing the date as 1/1/0001. I sent my bug report into the devs and they told me my file was completely corrupted due to the auto save activating as soon as the power outage hit.

any word on a possible fix? or will we have to start a new save from the beginning?
A developer of this app has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

Still don't believe it. Unless the save takes longer than x milliseconds or they continually save every second or so, it would be like one chance in a million.

There should be something else going on here. It would be interesting to know exactly what they do in the code.

You can test when they save by running the game in a window with the file explorer open and watching the modify date of the save. You don't really need them to tell you.

If they are saving too often that's a problem in of itself.

Lol I got a confirmation from the devs themselves but believe what you wanna believe homie. I only put this up here so the devs would be aware of the issue for future patches. You ain't one of the devs right? Then it doesn't matter if you believe it or not. Have a nice day

As mentioned by Thultex, you might be able to recover your progress by renaming your combat save to the save slot file name, which should be `SRRWSlot0`

which folder would I drag the file into after renaming it?
Grendel  [developer] Sep 21, 2020 @ 11:20am
Should be in the same folder as all the other save files in the /Documents/Star Renegades folder

Frankly, I don't care what the devs say. There's a reason why it happened in the first place: they missed something. :robocat:

I'm a programmer and have dealt strongly with complicated file saves auto and manual.

First off they can write to a temp save first then to the good save if everything writes correctly. They can make it easy on resources and separate thread. Auto restore the temp if there's an issue with the good one. There's no need for an issue there the first place.

So you can believe what you want lol

You're literally on this forum so you can stroke your ego. You've been alluding to your knowledge as a programmer since you first started posting but you haven't said anything to help the situation. No one cares that you're a programmer. Go stroke your ego somewhere else you clown 🤡🤡🤡

You just are sore by not being able to get it working and don't want to listen. So I'm done helping you. So long. You don't need help since its a lost cause.

To top it off, you post on a public forum WHERE OTHERS HELP. If you only want the devs help, you don't do that lol.

You haven't tried to help with anything lol all you've done is speculate and deny what me and some other players have experienced. The issue has already been rectified. Have a nice day
