Unless someone has proof of Kikiyama ever saying anything giving permission to alter the game.
Just because Kikiyama doesn't get in contact with the fandom, some people assume they live in total anonymity, if at all.
Seriously, this version has some weird bugs compaired to the original, mostly stuff like some sounds not playing, or playing way too loud.
Theres also the bug where The crash event in the spaceship doesn't have the fadeout in the bed, so theres nothing to hint you should stay in there, and the stars just start rushing by and the alarm goes off with no warning.
They're mostly fixing issues they introduced, and seeing how its easier to press a button on steam to install a game, in comparison to finding a download and installing it manually (which may even include downloading a patch for rpg maker because its programed in japanese) they should make sure their version is up to the standards of the original.
Besides, unless you played the original japanese version, you were already playing a version that was modified by someone that wasn't the original creator.
Running the jp version through applocale wasn't really changing much
Applocale was supposed to translate the code/text to unicode so it would run on unnative systems.
So applocale let you run the game, but it didn't translate it. Unless you can read japanese, you had to play the translated version of the game. And since someone had to go in and change the game to be in english, it was a modified version.
If you did play the original japanese version though, congrats! You successfuly "No true scotsman"ed yourself into being the only person on Steam that REALLY played Yume Nikki.
