On topic, this fanbase is just deathly afraid of new blood, even though new blood would arguably breathe new life into Yume Nikki and provide different theories (I can only take so much MADOTSUKI WAS RAPED AND IS PREGGERS, I want to see some new theories).
Sure, we're gonna get some cringy kids but we can just ignore them. What harm are they going to do? I'd argue that the more support Kikiyama gets, the better. She deserves credit for making YN.
On a more personal note this also means that people can experience some of the genius fangames like .flow which is amazing.
I don't recall any events like that in 2kki and I'm pretty far in it, just looking for the wallpapers. Care to list any?
I feel like .flow is at least slightly better at story telling than Yume Nikki, since you can tell .flow has a narrative, even if it's obscure, people have pretty solid theories. You can't really say the same for Yume Nikki, seeing as it's been 10 years and we still have zero idea what's going on.
That being said, while both of the "major" fangames (.flow and 2kki) are really good, I feel like 2kki's better than .flow at least as far as dream worlds and mechanics go. More interesting effect loadout too.
one that particularly messed with me was the curse you get after riding the bus that keeps coming back to ♥♥♥♥ with you...to get there, you go to the town with the people who disappear as soon as you talk to them, and sit on the bench with the bus sign next to it and wait a while, a bus will pick you up. i don't wanna spoil what happens next
i didn't like .flow cause it felt too derivative of jacobs ladder (and silent hill being an extention of that) to me, the whole "corrosion" theme felt cliche. also i actually dislike games that wear its symbolism on its sleeve, i'm a fan of david lynch-type story telling (mulholland drive & eraserhead are highly recommended for anyone who likes yume nikki). i think it's very good that no one knows what yume nikki is about and generally the theories ppl come up with annoy the absolute ♥♥♥♥ out of me
I don't recall a location like that, although I haven't played 2kki in a few versions. Maybe it's time to pick it back up.
Yeah, .flow is really on the nose with it's symbolism... I feel it's both a good and a bad thing, really, as it's dream world is scattered enough that you're still lost and trying to piece together what's happening, but knit close enough together that if you step back you can get a view at the full picture of the story.
I agree that a lot of the theories people make are pure ♥♥♥♥, and a lot of them are basically memes at this point, like that Madotsuki being pregnant and Uboa. It's part of the reasons I feel like new blood would do this fanbase a lot of good; maybe we just need a bunch of fresh eyes to look over this game for the first time to find something new or interesting.
link or it never happened
"Because almost every other rpgmaker game has been infected with bro syndrome, we cant loose this one."
