Yume Nikki

Yume Nikki

Earthbound, Yume Nikki, and Undertale are all compared to each other. What do you think it is that ties all these games together?
I would assume it has something to do with 'game feel' and aesthetics. But aside from being pixel art and surrealist, I'm not sure what.

But I do know that a lot of games are compared to the Mother series, and this is one of them.

Also, are there any games you think this one is like, outside of LSD, or fangames like .flow and Yume 2kki?

i know that toby fox was directly inspired by YN -- in his halloween hack he basically ganked the uboa sprite and gaster is almost CERTAINLY an expy of uboa as well. more than that, i can't really think of any similarities besides them all being odd cult classic RPGs popular with the same demographic of people.

as for more games like this, #21 - the world springs to mind instantly. its an exploration unity game, directly lifted from the creator's dream journal and is updated fairly regularly. its really cool!

YN has a segment directly inspired by the Mother series. Undertale has a character directly inspired by Uboa (and a segment directly inspired by Silent Hill, no less). They all have a surreal, dream-like quality to them.

OFF and LISA are certainly influenced by Yume Nikki. But better. :X

Something about the music and atmosphere as well.

You'ld surely never have guessed, but I did. So what? This thread asks for related games. If your fragile, little soul can't handle this, maybe you should just stay out of this thread and play your profound games like, well, Team Fortress 2?

Less focus on swearing and more on reading comprehension might help in your case.

I did not even ask for anything. I just said: Hey, they are some games which are inspired by Yume Nikki. They're even better. (Let's face it: The gameplay of Yume Nikki sucks incredibly.) So what should I do reseach on my own? So regarding what am I supposed not to be lazy?
Simple answer: Your comments don't make any sense. You've did simply not get what I was talking about.

P.S.: Swearing on the internet does not make you appear as a tought guy, but just as a random underaged jerk.

-Juxtaposition between heavy otherworldly atmospheres and a cutesy pixel chibi artstyle
-Emphasis on silent protagonist's personal journey
-Exploration encouraged

These are the first 3 points I come up with without overthinking it.
the dev of yummi nikki copied undertale thats why theyre so similar

A free game called 21: The World is very inspired by LSD. It lacks its lo-fi aesthetic but has a faster pacing and no random wake up system (although the slowness and the unpredictability are part of LSD's charm). I would strongly recommend checking The World out. The creator is working on a follow up called 19: The Sun (The creator intends to make more games named after tarot) which is in a different vain but looks very interesting.

Undertale is sort of more a friendly game tbh
Yume nikki is a dark and more surrealistic game
and Earthbound... idk its seem its in between, i think...

yume nikki was made in 2004 and it was published to steam in 2018 so theres no way yume nikki had any undertale stuff
