hobnob help

So i fee like i am suppose to use the bane of hobnob to win this fight. But everytime i use it it just fears someone... I'm sure i'm just missing something simple - so plz help

Have you used it with another item yet to gain access to a dungeon?

Don't use that! Just witchhex hobknob and stack some status on him like blind and poison

Thanks- Status was the way to go.. my wiz is slowest and Hob was the fastest -- so just slept him and if woke up from being hit he still missed his turn. I thought that drain was the end of me!
