4D8 or 5D6
For creating a character we have a choice between 4D8 or 5D5. what does that mean ? I don't understand.

It means that you either get:
4 - 32 (4D8)
or
5-30(5D6)

*Wrote wrong number.

4d8 means you roll 4 eight-sided dice, so your result could range from 4 to 32, 5d6 means you roll 5 six-sided dice, so your result could range from 5 to 30.

4D8 is 4-32, not 1-32, surely.

ok thanks.
Then, the choice is between put the points in hitpoint/Attributes/Skills/Destiny. I am hesitating between Attributes & Skills. But if it is like in W7, the best is go to Skills between in W7 when we change class, the attributes come back to the initial values. So what do you advice me ?

I'm not sure why you'd choose 5D6 over 4D8, since the average of the former is 17.5 and the latter is 18.

4D8 is always better for roll maximizing. After thinking about attributes vs skill vs hp, I am leaning towards attributes for characters that I plan to switch, hp for casters, and skills for those that don't fit the previous 2 categories. Also HP for characters that only have a few extra points.

5d6 has a 5-30 spread. 4d8 has a 4-32 spread. However, the most dice you roll, the more concentrated the outcomes are towards the center and away from the extremes.

For example. If you roll a 1d10, every number has an even chance of coming up, being 1 in 10. But if you roll 2d5, then not every result has the same odds. Only one combination(5 and 5) would result in 10 while different combinations(3 and 2, 1 and 4, etc) result in 5.

So as to which is better, certainly 4d8 as it has a higher maximum value and a better chance of rolling the high numbers. The downside to 4d8 is more likely to roll lower numbers too, but you can always reroll anyway despite the game's attempts to mitigate you doing so.

You're going to roll until you get a good number anyway. Just save time.

4d8 average 4.5x4 = 18
5d6 average 3.5x5 = 17.5
