- First time (factoring watching cutscenes into the total) should be around 5-6 hours.
- There are some extra missions (challenge rooms, boss rush, and a survival mode) which could put another 6 hours.
- There are a VS mode and a shmup mode which aren't, IMO, that fun, but could extend a couple more hours.
You can play again to unlock some extra missions and VS characters, you can do so with the mech version of your choice, plus all subweapons unlocked.
You can play at higher difficulties for the challenge, Normal on PS2 was quite challenging already.
But the biggest reason to replay the game is that it is just purely fun, dashing and slashing enemies will never get old. When I finish the game, I am willing to restart right away. I've had this opinion since 2003.
This is from the survival mode which puts you into non stop action, see for yourself if it feels like you could do this indefinitely:

Is it worth $30? It's my favorite game so I'm biased.
If you compare this to shmups (short but highly replayable), it's a somewhat acceptable price.
But I have seen games (of a later generation) being sold for 20€ (~$20) as well.
If it's worth 30 dollars or not is your call ultimately but I do have to say this remaster actually offers quite a bit in comparison to what you usually get: there's a new VR mode, an optional "Pro Mode" control scheme, enhanced UI, reworked audio and graphics and some new features like the model viewer or the 3D Hangar where you can hang out with Jehuty. The game itself has always been considered one of the best if not the best mech action game so it's hard not to recommend it.
I loved this game back when but £25 for a 5 hours game is a bit much.
