L3 and R3 not working

During the "Positive/Negative response" and "Quick Turn" tutorials these buttons didn't work for me. I mean, the left and right analog sticks work normally, it's just clicking them that gets no response.

I'm using a Dualshock 4, tried running it through DS4Windows to emulate a Xbox 360 gamepad just in case and it still didn't seem to be working for me.

I tried using it on another game that relied on those buttons, I picked Nioh, and there it seemed to work just fine.

Is anyone else getting this problem?

Seems like the issue is fixed for me since the patch, only that it doesn't seem to work during the tutorial. Past that, it works fine.

What patch? There hasn't been one.

There was a patch a few days after release that fixed the L3/R3 button problem though.

I'm not seeing any patch notes or news. I've had no updates since the game's launch. I've just restarted Steam to make sure. The issue is still present along with the low audio.

There was a 131.4MB update but we never had patch notes for some reason. It fixed the L3/R3 responses for a bunch of people so either you're pressing the button at the wrong time, have some kind of weird controller configuration (controller settings inside Steam Big Picture mode, maybe?) or you're just plain unlucky, there's really nothing more to this situation I'm afraid.

May not work for everyone, but even after the patch my L3 and R3 weren't working properly (Xbox 360 controller). I fixed it by going to Steam -> Settings -> Controller -> General Controller Settings -> and enabling Generic Gamepad Configuration Support (even though it's not a generic gamepad).

I had to do the same thing to get L3 and R3 working in Final Fantasy XV, and it also worked here. Weirdly enough, if I play either game in my living room from my Steam Link, I have to then disable the setting to make L3 and R3 work.

Yep, definitely broken for me, usingh a DS4 through DS4Windows, with all Steam controller support disabled so it doesn't conflict. Game sees all my other buttons fine, as does every other game I own.

I was able to answer positively during the second question by pressing L3 while the question was still going. I couldn't do that during the first question (Which happens just a few seconds earlier) because the tutorial text appears AFTER the moment you can actually input your response.

So yeah, basically you gotta decide what to answer before the question is over. I'm using a DS4 with Steam's controller support (So it emulates a 360 controller plus some touchpad bindings I always use like one for screenshotting). No need to mash, just pressing either once will automatically trigger the answer at the end of the question.


Also something about the quick turn text in the tutorial irks me. I played this on the PS2 and I don't really recall ever having a quick turn ability there nor actually needing it since moving down with the left stick and quickly releasing it (Once Jehuty is looking towards you) will automatically turn the camera. The tutorial also both skips mentioning this during the demo itself and only mentions it in text along with a cockpit view so my question is, isn't the quick turn feature actually just a feature exclusive for the VR headset mode? Since playing this on VR is when you would actually need a quickturn button the most.

i cant get the demo to run at all as soon as i touch a button on my controller the game crashes to desktop. so sad i really wanted to buy this but im glad i got the demo first. konomi's dead now that hiddeo left

Sma here, seems like the issue is not fixed, got the game today and can't use the pos/neg reaction with the stick button

yes the issue persists in the current version of the full game
