Warbanners is like playing a digital version of Fantasy Warhammer miniature game. It's relatively simple mechanics but the scenarios can be very challenging. Overall, I recommend it as a fun little strategy game. Nothing mind-blowing special, but enjoyable none-the-less.

Fun game. This game can actually get quite entertaining when you get the hang of it. At first, it can seem a bit intimating as not everything is fully explained (character stamina is important so is the terrain your character is standing on and your stats such as evasion, attack, morale, etc. are critical. Items you give your characters can completely change how you use them, and be careful about anything that lowers a character's stat.). If you level up your soldiers right, and build a good army that is flexible, and make sure you keep your unique characters alive each battle, you will do well. After a while you get over the graphics which at first look a bit outdated, but once you understand everything you can focus on the gameplay, which is great. I also think the AI is pretty good. I really like how much effort went into this and how your characters can gain certain abilities. Overall, I enjoyed the game. I would give the game a 7.5/10. Fun turned base strategy game, similar to Battle for Wesnoth, but with a more complicated rule set.

the idea behind the game is quite good but execution is so terrible. every run i started i'm bombarded with help screens on all early missions. optimization nonexistent. i even tryed it on hi-end graphic workstation with same result. the game sometimes just react with annoying delay, you feel like every thing you do ingame the app has to first find and unpack proper resurces and then execute it slowly. nvidia experience doesn't work. my experience was just annoying to the level i wanted to uninstall the game.

Not worth it.. the UI is crazy dumb the graphics are not good. its almost unplayable. dont waist your money.

A very fun strategy game with a good storyline.

I think with a acceptable price this game is good for who likes old style tactics game. The Dwarves and Elves only appear once or twice in entire game. I think if these two races have more showtime it's will be more interesting.

But differing in others - such WB having a narrative storey line to give you a plot to follow from beginning to end.

Warbanners is an old school turn based hex-battle strategy game with RPG elements... and this should be a slam dunk because it's an underserved market, but in the case of Warbanners, it's unfortunately not a winner. While the game is wonderfully deep, it's atrociously balanced, with poor game design in terms of hit ratios, RNG, and general understanding of what makes a strategy game "fun". Like, there's no way to save during combat, which means you are stuck for a long time clicking through combats (or you just have to abandon your progress if you need to go do something else), and that's not okay. The target audience for these kinds of games is going to be more mature gamers who enjoy old school thinking mans games, and mature gamers don't spend marathon hours on gaming sessions. Progression is also problematic... you're punished severely for unit losses, and yet you don't get opportunities to build an overwhelming awesome army towards the end of the game. This is the antithesis of fun when it comes to these kinds of games.

There's also some technical problems, quite a few. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard.

The artwork here is terrible, it's a hodge-podge of amateurish "My First Wacom Tablet" style drawings and retro pixel-esque graphics used instead professional looking game assets. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget to arrange someone who can create graphical assets properly, or lack of talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low, enough on its own to deter gamers. Take a look at a recent Total War game for an idea what modern games can and should look like.

There's no options to change the resolution for the game or customise the graphics settings. There's no way for gamers to ensure this is running at the native resolution of their displays... there's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision. There's no way for gamers to try improve the low quality graphics. This is coupled with no display scaling, so for me, text was a bit too small to read, and this is a text heavy game. It's evident little to no playtesting took place on modern gaming PCs.

Some of the defects in the game can be attributed to the choice of using the GameMaker Studio construction kit/toolset. This is a very poor quality toolset favoured by amateur developers as it's cheap and requires little in the way of development skill, but unfortunately has very limited capabilities. Just as you can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear, you can't make a great video game if you use a terrible engine. GameMaker Studio is most commonly used to make retro pixel shovelware and cash grabs.

A strong argument can be made that construction kits like GameMaker Studio should never be used to make games for profit, as the "developer", Crasleen Games has done here. These construction kits are intended to teach people some of the basic principles of game development, and to make small demos to pass around with friends. They're not intended to replace to actual work of real, professional game developers. So it's inappropriate when amateurs try to use these for profit, without any actual, real game development effort taking place. This doesn't result in products that have any real meaningful value for gamers.

These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game.

Reviewing SteamDB to check how popular this game was with players reveals a surprise... there's a very healthy spike in player counts for the game. But this only appears around the same time that trading cards were applied to the game... so this is just card idlers getting their cards and moving on. A closer look at the numbers shows the game just has a couple of players every week running up the game and idling it for cards, then deleting it. We must ask how it benefits gamers for there to be so many games like this, with no merit as a serious game, that only generate sales from people idling and selling the trading cards.

Warbanners has the utterly unrealistic price of $20 USD (plus another $5 DLC, so $25 for the whole game), for which you could easily get any number of older AAA games. This is also competing with over 9,000 free games available on Steam, many of them far better than this paid product. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, this is impossible to recommend. Seriously, you can get some of the most recent Total War games for that price, or Europa Universalis... the pricing here is either delusional, or a slap in the face. Either way, it's not okay. If the price was less than $5 USD this would deserve a "maybe", but there's just too many defects for a game like this (GameMaker Studio, FFS) to be priced near-AAA.

Overpriced at 19.99. There are better turn based games available for similar price or cheaper. Unit types are hard to distinguish on the battle field, graphics are basic and animations almost non existent.
