Japanese language please!
I played chunsoft’s game since PlayStation 1, and I can understand Japanese language.

All previous visual novels games from chunsoft, like zero escape, Danganronpa, DO SUPPORT the Japanese language as an option.

Please, chunsoft. Please consider not only release English for steam, but also the original language, make it as an option

Thanks

Not purchasing until Japanese language support has been confirmed.

Without a Japanese language option I will not be buying.

Same. Please reconsider.

Ditto. Out of everything you announced at GDC all the other store pages include Japanese language, so I'm hoping it's simply an oversight.

Agreed. It makes no sense to not provide the original language, and I will not be buying the game until it has it.

They will release 428 in Japan, but unfortunately it will be a separate entity from the English version and it will only be sold in Japan. Steam store page for the Japanese version (only accessible in Japan): https://store.steampowered.com/app/648590/

So no Japanese language support for the West, and no English language support for Japan? I guess this is a publishing rights issue, but can nothing be done about it?

You'll probably be able to switch out the files for the language you'd want (if you have access to them). Or you probably could get someone to gift the Japanese/English version to you (although I'm not 100% sure if the gift system would allow that nowadays).

I just hope they still let us swap languages. The reason why I wanted to buy this game is because I'm a japanese learner, and wasn't planning to read it in english.

Well, that and the fact I always wanted to play this before.

btw , do any of you make fantranslations of games or interviews?

Wait I don't get it, so do you mean they're gonna dub this game in English?

I'm still holding out hope something can be done about this...

Okay, I've played the PS4 demo: https://store.playstation.com/en-us/product/UP4774-CUSA12263_00-428SHIBUYATRIAL0 and based on that, the game is NOT dubbed at all as it seems a *few* of you are thinking. The text has been translated/localized into English and that's it. There's one song played briefly after the main title on a character's phone which is still in Japanese, but as far as I got to play, in true sound novel fashion... no one speaks at all (the game is text-driven with VERY brief FMV sequences that aren't voiced).

Some notes on that translation are here: https://blog.us.playstation.com/2018/08/06/interview-the-localization-of-428-shibuya-scramble-demo-tomorrow/ The bonus scenario is included in its original Japanese, so that will hopefully be a plus for some of you.

Remember, folks: the game is being localized for an English-speaking audience who will very likely appreciate the fact that they're getting a REALLY excellent game they'd never see at all. Amusingly enough, as I was playing the demo, a freind stopped by to return some games, saw me playing and ended up grabbing the demo as soon as he got home. He's someone who's not into VN's at all, but he likes old FMV games quite a lot and this intrigued him enough to try it out. Yep, he's going to buy the full version (which thrilled his GF because she's a big fan of the Zero Escape and Dangonronpa games and has been trying to get him on that train for a while).

If you're that desperate to play in Japanese, there are five versions (Wii, PSP, PS3, iOS, Android) that have been released between 2008 and 2011. Granted, you'll need the hardware to play these on, but that's on you if you decide to go that route.

That said, I'd bet the import mobile version isn't around any longer as iOS and Android games tend to vanish without warning. Given that (other than resolution) the game looks exactly the same on everything it's been on, you have those other options to choose from IF Spike's US branch for whatever reason, can't add the Japanese text to the game as an option.

In Japan there is the opposite issue that only Japanese version is available... which is pretty annoying for non fluent expats there. Why not just make both languages available everywhere? Blows my mind...
