Is passing the persuasion 4 check at mission control the only way to get this upgrade chip? I've done multiple runs on release build and so far I have not found any other means to get this chip. I find it very lame considering the neural defense is required for psychic enemies. I don't really care about the disposition bonus but locking an essential item behind a check which most combat builds wouldn't be able to pass is annoying.

My suggestion is to place the chip on those dead bodies scattered around mission control ruins. This is a good solution because it'd provide combat players the ability to get this item while other builds can get the chip early if they have the stats. Either that or let me pay double the price to get the chip.

Speaking of which I don't like how I can't pay double or triple the price to get access to these vendor items. Like, c'mon, any salesman will happily scam you if it means bigger profits for them. I just don't understand the mechanics behind locking combat builds out of combat items. What does a speech build even need combat items for? So they can talk the enemy down even harder?

Rant over. Anyways. To go back to my earlier point I like the idea of Master Trader or persuasive builds being able to get the items at cheap while others will pay a bigger price - this makes sense to me.

Also if you fail the check in order to get some LP for persuasion you get completely locked out of asking for the item again. Go figure.

2. Persuasion 4 is easy to get and you want it anyway for the Factory Quartermaster.

So I take your reply as confirmation that there is no other way to get this upgrade chip that raises an essential stat which is required for psychic enemies as Neural Defense is the only stat in the entire game that mitigates panic state and reduces damage taken from psychic bolts which are the most dangerous types of attacks since they hurt a lot; other than from a speech check that most combat builds won't be able to meet.

Just reading that out loud makes my brain take psychic damage...

What about Zen stims, Ultra Zen stims, INT implant upgrades, CHA, helmets?

He means the upgrade to the implant, which can only be accessed with Persuasion 4 in Mission Control.

Pink Eye wants to get it without leveling Persuasion to 4, which is free with all the tokens you acquire.

Pretty much all you need is one speech token and a few casual chats and presto you got streetwise&persuasion at lvl4.

There's thirty two different ways to get the other upgrade chips, on top of also being able to get them early depending on your build; yet you're not locked out as a combat build if you don't fulfill those conditions. This upgrade chip though? Nah. There's only one way to get it via a specific set of steps. Yeah. Makes sense.

I'm square dancing in quadra steps trying to rationalize this.

You can get it for free without sacrificing any combats.
