Educated and Where to spend that Stat Boost
Hey everyone,

I am currently on my first play-through of the game and decided to play on hard mode, as I typically do. I built my main character as a Cult Leader with a 10 Charisma and 9 Intelligence. Obviously, their combat skills/HP isn't great, but with the Intelligence score, they're also my skill monkey.

I have Shotguns (4), Persuade (8), and Impersonate (7) as my tagged skills. Also, just through interactions, Streetwise is currently 5 - nearly 6.

Even with Jed and Evans buffed, we suck in combat. Combat is just super difficult (I don't have to tell you all), but luckily I've been able to Impersonate/Street Wise/Persuade myself out of most hostile encounters. In fact, I have made it through all of the Brotherhood, Protectorate, and I am working through the Church missions right now and haven't fired a single shot.

So here's my question: I am thinking about taking the Educated feat to gain another tagged skill for my main PC. Jed covers Biotech (6), but no one else on the team does Computers or Electronics, except my main PC.

Where should I put the tagged skill to help me in mid/later game:

  • Computers (3 but nearly 4) - would bump to 5, but damn near 6. I have to imagine computers becomes much more necessary as the game progresses.
  • Electronics (3) - would bump to 5. Much for the same reason as computers.
  • Armor (2) - would bump to 4. This would allow my squishy ass main PC to wield some more sturdy protection and survive a bit longer when push comes to shove.

For those wondering, main PC has Lockpick (6), Steal (5), and Faythe has Sneak (4). I got her super late into my early playing hours. Just didn't know where to find her and kind of stumbled on her, so she's well behind my other PCs. I also think I completely screwed up her build, but that's for a later post.

Thanks, all

Edit: I appreciate any and all responses, but I don't think restarting the game is something my ADHD brain can handle right now. I might just play until I hit a wall at this point.

I don't see it, to completely fix targeting was 9 electronics.
You only get the option in the bot bay at the lowest level of Mission Control afaik

I see, thank you, that's a weird way to do it, I was wondering why he didn't have good armor.

Cult leader combat was tough in act 1. But once if figured out i should just sweep the legs on enemies for +20 acc and use grenades whenever i can it was a breeze.

My lowest non-combat skill was biotech at lvl 7, the rest were 10 or 9 by the end except sneak. A skill id did not use anyway.

The master trader perk is insane, you can buy everything you want from all shops and overclock any implants you want since you are swimming in cash.

It's not. For the discount to amount to an overclock's worth of credits, you'd have to spend 8k credits in stores. If you did that you'd have overclocked 1 implant instead of 4. In my first complete playthrough I kept a rough record of my total store spending, it amounted to around 4k, meaning Master Trader would have saved me 1k credits, which would be cool, except 1k credits isn't worth 1 feat.

The disposition bonus could've been good for a low cha build, but the feat needs 7 Cha in the first place. Some of the Master only deals are great though. Overall it's a good feat if you already have the charisma for it. But an "insane" feat would make you want to get 7 cha just to get it, and that's not happening.

Lots of guns and to a lesser degree master trader are nothing but newb traps...offering solutions to self inflicted problems.

Energy weapons are cool and all, but they have a few serious disadvantages. Ammo is very limited, like something between 140 and 180..

Actually not this limited, you can end game with something like 330+ if you dont use them at all, I just ended the run having 294 cells when i finally started to use them =)

Thank you. I actually ended up taking your advice and restarting. I still don't think it's min-max perfect, but that's OK. I don't like min-maxing anyways and this game on hard almost forces that. Regardless, I have my main PC all social; Faythe is my skill monkey and stealth killer; Jed is my biotech guy, Evans just kills from afar.

But even still, combat is tough for me. General rule of thumb for me is start by activating devices, flashbang on the enemy as soon as I can, move my melee people into position and then start shooting with the others.

Not sure how to use smoke. Try and get my team's thermals to 100% and then smoke on myself?

Yes, use smoke if you don't get enough evasion from distortion field.
