Do I need skill monkey to reach 10 in science skills if I pick them on my MC?

I think you do and probably a tag as well.

Tag for sure, but then it depends how much you use them, especially on situations in which you can kill or remove enemies using them.

Hmm I'm planning on resolving everything through combat and only using them for the extra stuff, so i guess I should pick skill monkey then

Steep xp curve from what I see. However, I am curious what is behind the level 10 locks.

If you intend of doing everything all violent-like, then I'd suggest giving all tech/stealth skills to Faythe + the Skill Monkey feat + Thief feat (she gets this one or Assassin one from your quest dialogue), because she has 4 tags (5 with Neural Implant overclocked) and she's basically made for this, while you can really focus on combat with some nice heroic feat, like Dodge This, the dex one, Jaggernaut or something. Having a good combatant MC will carry you much further, while Faythe can pick all the exploration/security stuff and give you the best loot and some extra places you wouldn't be able to see otherwise.
