Ending(s) Underwhelming?
Did anyone else find the endings a little disappointing compared to AoD? I know there might be a sequel to this but it felt like compared to AoD this was pretty linear, choices didn't end up being important, there weren't any revelations towards the end of the game - perhaps the ending lacked imagination?

So as an alternative, I'll put an alternative out there. Perhaps we discovered the world was a volcanic wasteland and unlivable, that the bridge/ ECLSS had tried to conceal this from colonists and the goal was to survive as long as possible (maybe they know earth has also been destroyed so the bridge decided they couldn't turn around anyway; maybe the mutants are actually the only species that could survive in future on Proxima)

We have a choice between revealing the truth to the ship, taking the plunge on the transporter to the wasteland anyway or living the lie and returning to the ship and joining a faction. Then our reputation and skills with a faction influence what ending we get (like AoD). Or if we take the plunge & go down on the transporter, then the outcome depends on the skills of ourselves and party, the help we get from friendly factions, ECLSS etc?

Or damn it we try and turn the ship around anyway but risk getting fried by the bridge's defences : )

Any other alternative ending ideas?

Some of the endings have many more slides / info than others. I dont think there is a need to invent more.

You can already try to turn the ship Earth-wards. And the monks don't like the idea.

Otherwise, in itself, the ending is cool. Finding out you have arrived is great.
However, the choices you made end up having little consequence, or so it seems to me. I didn't see much of a difference between a protector and a monk ending.

Which is quite contradictory to the description of the game in my opinion:

'Colony Ship is a turn-based, party-based role-playing game set aboard a generation ship launched to Proxima Centauri. The game features a detailed skill-based character system, multiple ways to handle quests, choices & consequences, and branching dialogue trees.'

Yes, it's a bit underwhelming but there are choices and consequences earlier, during the game itself. Who rules the pit, whether Faythe leaves, the fate of Knurl... are many consequences that are far from irrelevant. It's just the endings that didn't seem different enough. Again, I haven't seen the church or brotherhood endings. There's also another option that may make the ending feel quite different, but it's the choice you make at the very end, which depends on some previous choices made in the Heart.

I still have a few more endings to experience but here is my opinion on the ones ive got so far:

Habitat Faction has the mcGuffin - Choose to accept the monk's suggestion to keep the ship in orbit

This is my headcannon ending so far, It has many slides that made me feel that my choices did matter and some slides that could use some more input

The pit staying free witch took me a few tries to get was really touching - even though it did feel a bit odd that suddenly , when the Faction Chief told me to go take it i had absolutely no option to even whine a bit about it

Shuttle and Factory played a cool role in the whole "reconstruction" but I could use a few more indications about the factions I left in power there. Maybe its different if I try the Black hand or detroit route - or whatever other than independence for the shuttle.

All in all , I really enjoyed this ending.

Taking the lander

This was a bit disapointing. Couple of slides only focusing on what happened on the planet and absolutely nothing about the rest of the ship apart from the factory falling.

This could use a bit more polish but compared to how awesome the rest of the game is its probably ok.

I really hope the other endings offer a few more slides than this one tho

Stiill a kickass game tho <3

It is the shortest of all endings, the thinking was that you cut ties with the Ship and no longer care about what happened to it. It would be very easy to expand this ending.

Thank you.

Yes.

Don't get me wrong: I enjoyed Colony Ship, and it definitely added some gameplay elements that could be said to be improvements on Age of Decadence. However, in terms of endings and impact the protagonist's choices can have, it doesn't even hold a candle to AoD.

Colony Ship is, as you say, very linear, and in the broader scheme of things, most choices you can make don't matter a great deal. AoD is a very, very different beast.
