Colony ship 2?
When this game is finished do the devs plan on making a sequal? Obviously theyd want to do other stuff too, but eventually?

If the game sales well when it comes the dev's will make a sequel. They already talked about the plan for one http://www.irontowerstudio.com/forum/index.php/topic,7753.0.html

It depends on sales. If developers have enough money, they plan to do sequel.
Sucks, i know, but this is how capitalism works. Throwing away like 100 mill. dollars on "film" that does not even get released (see: Batgirl) but not investing small part of that money on really good product.

well... its not even released yet right? which means itll probably get a TON of sales when it does.. a man can hope

If only we had a give-money-to-good-products commissar!

If the game sells enough to keep us in business (pay for 4-5 years of development), then the next project is the above mentioned sequel. If not, then Colony Ship is our last game (there won't be enough money to continue). Right now the odds are 50/50.

Dude... thats dissapointing to hear. its such a good game man. Honestly I was kinda hoping this would be one of those cases where indie devs knock it out of the park and turn into the next bathesda or EA... but like back when they were good. XD

Hopefully the good fifty percent is where that coin lands

It's not the case, unfortunately. Either we barely make it or not make it at all.

Sad to hear so. Is the game selling worse than Age of Decadence, or its because the production cost has skyrocket?

The costs are fairly low, but the sales are dropping steadily. So far in 2022 we sold a quarter of what we sold last year (we launched in April, so it wasn't a full year). There's still a chance that we'll do better on release, hence the 50/50 comment.

It feels like only games that are already popular are getting promoted by steam lately. X-Com, Insurgency, HoI.... hopefully they have a big indie dev thing come up.

I haven't played "Colony Ship" yet but I'd like to.

I studied the sciences ( Advanced Physics in the UK, 1992-1994 ) and love science fiction as a genre. My favourite sci fi movies of the last 15 years are Pandorum (2009) and Infini (2015).

The trailer for "Colony Ship" reminded me of "Pandorum":

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1188729/

The thing is I have 318 games on my wishlist ( + MS PC gamepass ). I prefer to buy games when they are finished. All of these games are competing for my dollars.

I read an article that talked about why Steam is failing relative to Epic Games. Steam has too many games and not enough curation or targeted marketing.

I'd say that Steam works just fine, better than ever even, and many recently released indie games do spectacularly well:

^3,200 reviews on release, definitely a success story

^ 6,500 reviews while still in EA, a massive success (by indie standards)

Pandorum was a really good movie. I'm a big fan of the dark sci-fi from around that time that never got much attention.

This is a fantastic game and I certainly hope it gets a sequel. I will buy any DLC or supporters packs released for the game to help fund that endeavor.

Have you considered a supporter type DLC for those who were very pleased with the game and are willing to give some extra money to support future games?
Vince  [developer] Sep 6, 2022 @ 1:54pm
If the 'market' doesn't support us, the extra money from our supporters won't help either. Their moral support helps a great deal as it is, so why take advantage of their good will?
