New weapons requests
Our weapon master has finished plasma 'shotgun' (a short range, blunderbuss-style weapon) and 'smg' (rapid fire weapon). We're planning to add more plasma weaponry in the future, but now would be a good time to inquire which weapons you'd like to see, both high-tech and low-tech.

We can't add new categories so no crossbows, flamethrowers, or brass knuckles. We won't be able to satisfy all requests as our resources are limited, but we'll carefully consider each and every one of them.

Yes! YES! Mwaha! I wanna an awesome quarterstaff - so I can LARP as a monk :P
I also wanna fail. A Big. Flail. Two handed Mace sounds awesome too.

Faythe wants a big two handed great sword too!

This would probably be a huge amount of work relative to the payoff, but I find myself wondering about non-lethal weaponry. I seem to recall a reference to a shock baton originally used for non-lethal subdual, and I'm not sure how many situations there'd be a reason to want to subdue without killing, but I could certainly see there being encounters where not killing someone might change things in interesting ways. For instance, in the end of the pit combats, if you could non-lethally subdue Braxton or Jonas then put them on trial, maybe that would result in more stability/less unrest later in the game?

That said, I assume this would be a fair amount of new programming to handle non-lethal damage, and either a large amount of extra scripting to handle multiple possible outcomes of every fight, or a relatively limited impact relative to the work involved if only a small fraction of fights care about it. It's just a thought though. After all, prisoners sell better than corpses.

Pretty much. Either very limited, practically non-existent impact or 2-3 years of work (if applied to the entire game), so let's stick with the existing weapon types.

I forgot to add another criteria: the weapons must fit the existing animations, so no quarterstaff or flails. Maces are too similar to hammers but we can consider it.

Two-handed is unlikely but we can consider a laser 'sword'-like cutter: a laser beam between two metal points, sort of like a low-clearance hacksaw.

Also, someone asked for an early axe for bladed, which makes sense. Maybe something like:

Hmm. What about a morning star? In terms of animations, It can function similar to a gear mace.

Alright, I'm increasing all skill checks and enemy skills.

We have a spiked club (machined, not crude), so it's too similar.

What about a Mallet? Could use the same animations as sledge hammer.
Pink Eye Jul 1, 2021 @ 8:13pm
Also, if you're going to be doing an Axe. Whatcha thoughts on Pole Axe?
Vince  [developer] Jul 1, 2021 @ 8:14pm
I don't recall which weapons were included in the combat demo. We have 3 two-handed hammers: 'warhammer', kinetic, and sledge. What would a mallet add here, visually and mechanically?

Poleaxe is too medieval and would certainly require new animations. Firefighter axe - maybe, as there are no two-handed axes at the moment.

Laser sword and maybe a fancy expensive metal claymore
Pink Eye Jul 1, 2021 @ 8:17pm
It'd be a one handed hammer. I don't recall much variety for one handed blunt weapons besides Gear Mace, Utility Bar, and that other one you can loot from the thugs outside your apartment.
