i recently lost my dog to cancer and have become a miserable SOB.

This game makes me smile.

For $5, I would buy it 12 times just because its worth that much to me, this game is easily worth $60, I play this more than a new AAA game. I dont think Ive gone a day without playing it since I bought it a year ago. Its so simple, yet so, so, adddicting. and since the graphics are basic (which I dont mind, I would play the game no matter the look, the gameplay just steals the show) it literally can run on ANYTHING, i think I could maybe run it on my toaster if I wasnt as dumb as the toaster itself. But overall, If youre looking for a RTS game to sink MONTHS into, then youve found it.

:The only negative thing I would put on here is that some of the units are unbalanced, but since the game gets updated quite frequently, Im certain it will be resolved soon. (Recent update added a bunch of new units to try and counter-act the old units.

So first a bit of background (This'll be a ride, buckle your seatbelts and just stay with me, this rambling has a purpose)

My computer died not too long ago and I needed a dirt cheap machine to stay online with.
So I ended up grabbing a $70 chromebook.
Well, a computer is a computer, and I will find a way to get it to play games.
So I turned on the linux client, spent far too long figuring out how to install steam through a crosanti VM client.
And boom, I can play steam games. At least, I can play what a 32 GB chromebook can hold and run. Which is not much.
And my favorite genre is RTS. But it seems no RTS games outside of the Total War run natively on linux.
So my search began, the search for an RTS game that runs natively on linux while being lowspec enough to not require a GPU of any sort, and fit on about 8 GB of reserved system storage.

And I stumbled upon this game, on sale no less, just under $3, how could I not at least give it a try?
Well I tried it and it was... "okay". Nothing too great, felt like a really watered down Supreme Commander - which is a great game too, but nothing I've not played before.
I was planning to keep the game, give it a middling review, and stop there.

...Then, I saw the workshop page...
For only 8 MB, I could install a total conversion mod like those of yesteryear that completely overhauls the game?
Some glorious madman named SUSHIMAKI has effectively ported all the classic RTS games in as mods? He even made his own absolutely fantastic standalone fantasy setting that feels like a mix between Dawn of War, WarCraft 3, and Age of Empires 3?
Well, I'd better make sure to leave a positive review then.
And buy three more copies of the game for my friends.
And give SUSHIMAKI some badges.
And stay up until 5:00am the next morning just trying to think of how I can turn the awe I'm in into a somewhat comprehensive recommendation for some low-spec RTS game I bought on a whim that's pre-loaded with public domain music I remember from "Return Fire".

With Mods: 9/10 - "if only this had a random map generator, or more skirmish options."
Without Mods: 7/10 - "Diet Supreme Commander is still good in its own right."

I parked my towers right in front of my friend's base and he told me he never really liked me. 10/10 would recommend

I think my play time speaks for itself. This game is one of the best RTS i've ever played. Because it can be wathever you want it to be. Really check out this game's workshop, it's insane how easy it is to make anything you want with the modding features. And if you don't want to mod, you got a solid vanilla experience and hundreds of comunity mods already available.

Overall a great game! buy it and play the "classic" RTS style game, while there are better ones, Rusted Warfare is definately on my "must own" list, i came here and bought it while I even had the version on my phone!

A simple but enjoyable RTS with a large number of mods.

Not complex, but uncomplicated. Playable while drunk.

I have seen sleeper cars.. sleeper pc's.. and now a sleeper rts.
I would pay 60 usd for this game but not 5 usd for company of heroes 3.
This is where the fun is at.

EVERY SINGLE PC game dev could take note of this game. It is a COMPLETE game with unlimited replayability for less than a friggin cup of coffee. NO BS. NO DLC. NO "SEASON PASS", NOT FULL OF BUGS, NO BROKEN PROMISES, just good fun, and lots of it.

Only bought this game because I play it on the phone and wanted to support the devs, then I saw the workshop, holy moly, didn't realize how many workshop mods were on here, and they have some seriously talented modders on here!
