So... this is Pay to Win.
I am currently at the Goblins levels and I am having a hellish time trying to make my way thru, my Sorcerer is level 9 my Knight is level 9 and my Bandit Girl is level 11... the level 5-6 Goblins butcher me, the Goblin Bomb guy is WAY too powerful, the Medic heals as much as one of my top move damage, and whoever else is on the team I can at best defeat with a single person standing at death door... and as I said I am several level ahead of the enemies... so yea its pretty obvious they expect you to lay down the cash to boost up your team to be able to progress in the story, I don't doubt the guys having over 10k points in the Arena got there by laying a ton of cash, since you can basically pay to get a random chance to get a better character, better gear, boosts... it make it absolutely Pay to Win.

this is my problem too...

I made of a review about it, between the fact that to get new chars, gear and boosts you need to pay cash to get gems to pay for them in random box form... the fact that to unequip items from a char you need to pay gems, you only get gems on first wins of the Campaign at each difficulties, plus every match in the Arena... but its only a couple, where a box for chars or good gear cost 200 gems and the cheap gear cost 25... to unequip items cost a fortune in gems too... you can't even grind for chars, gear and such... which typically is what make the difference between a crappy Free to Play and a Pay to Win, the fact you can't really grind gems outside of the Arena, and the Arena is PvP, as you can't get them by replaying missions, added to the fact the stuff you need to pay for isn't merely cosmetic or some bonsues, it effectively mark this as pure Pay to Win.

yes, yes it is P2W. HOWEVER it is fun to thrash the payers with a free crew. Soooo sweet.

The problem is it won't happen, you'll never have as good a team as the payers, maybe those that began paying, but quickly they'll be out of your league. If their was more strategy to the fights maybe it would be more possible for a free player to beat the payers, but each chars got 2 abilities and 1 trait... its extremely basic... whoever got the top chars and top gear wins, as simple as that.

You dont have to pay to get items. Everyday you log in for the first time. Kiz gives you a chest filled with gold, orbs, and sometimes gems, and sometimes a item. Ive receive purple items before, does it happen all the time, no its based on rarity. Also your friends can send you gift boxes, I would understand if you could pay to get specific items or specific champs, but yes it is based on luck. Please forgive but you have a few dev(literally a handful) trying to make a honest living. Just saying they're are not your typical BIG game company. As for the trophy counts that I think you're refering to (10k). Those are based on a 2 week season, so they're reset every two weeks. We do have people that love the game and play and have not spent a penny. Unequiping items is pretty cut and dry YES there is a charge, BUT there is a confirmation screen making SURE this is what you want to do. ALSO Kiz will run sales very often, one being for 24 hours you can unequip and equip items for FREE. We really do try to look out for our players. Paying to win is NOT a definitive thing in M&M, because I've seen people who know the strategy better beat someone who has a really awesome set of champs. Hola at me Lydia in game chat and I'll help you out best I can.

Look I can understand the Devs trying to make a living here, I understand that I truly do, but the problem is their are two sorts of stuff you pay for in games, one is you pay for stuff that you need, the other is you pay for cosmetics and some boosts to shorten the grind. The first is Pay to Win, as this is because ultimately even if their are sales every now and then it still mean you need to pay for stuff you largerly shouldn't, it just mean its cheaper. The other means that the people spending on that are basically buying something that isn't game changing, its a minor shortcut at best to be purely for fun at worse, and that is how good Free to Play games are made.

Gems are not readily available in this game, you earn minimally for first win on the Campaign, you win minimaly per wins in the Arena, you might win some randomly on Login or maybe true something else I haven't seen, but the fact Gems are required to get the chars and the gear and unless you get competitive you won't be able to acquire any in a consistent manner past a certain point means that only those past said certain point that pay for gems will be able to proceed further.

If those random boxes had skins for characters, I wouldn't give a poop, it would be fine, but you roll for actual characters with different stats, abilities and traits, which mean those roll if you get lucky or not can keep you stagnating at the bottom or push you to the top, those that pay will get tens of rolls of those boxes easily and will be able to likely win what they need to go on extremely easily, while people not paying or spending 10 hours a day grinding, are going to be left at the bottom, that is what makes it Pay to Win.

Like I said many game companies have taken to that random box crap lately, some game developers went with pretty much purely cosmetic stuff in those boxes and still made a fortune out of it, while others are putting actual stuff that matter, and which is an horrible idea for any mostly PvP games, in those boxes... like you did. Random boxes should ALWAYS be merely for inconsequential things, anything else means its basically giving the rich people a chance to keep rolling those boxes until they get all they need to beat anybody which didn't do that.

Sad to see another P2W game brought to steam... thanks for the heads up will be avoiding this mess. I'd much rather them put everyone on equal footing, with a regular priced purchase for this genre in the 10-20 dollar range. Instead they try and milk people on a psychological level once they are hooked. I consider that the lowest form of interaction in existence pure trash.

Wow, so get to level 4 castle and F2P is WAAAAAY good.

You can look in the negative review section for it.

I've been playing a while, and yes, you Could, in theory, get the best characters and gear way before anyone else, if you are willing to pay, BUT this will Not actually make you a good player. The balancing part of this game is Actually based on your understanding of the game, and your stratigizing, as apposed to high-level units, and gear, though those Do help, they cannot carry you against players who are actually Good at the game.
I haven't, nor will I ever spend a dime on this, or any other game, i just can't afford it, but I will sing the praises of games I enjoy, and this is one of them.
Mostly the problem i see people having is the difficulty spike, but i faced this spike also, and then got over it, so what's the difference? I learned to play the Game, and then it became Fun.
I don't really know how else to explain it, most people now-days seem to be deturred by free games they can't just win automatically, and i blame the moble market for that.
Think of this, like the first time you came across a pokemon game, there's a Lot more to it then just trying to dish out damage, you have to actually learn how the characters work, what each move does, when it's best to use them, and in what scenario, and in what combination.
Truthfully, if i had gripe about Something, it would be the 50 gems it costs to unequip stuff, That's a real bummer, but only because it takes a bit of time to grind, but between the single-player campagin, and the duel arena it's not all that problematic, and makes free-play totally viable. a bit more time-consuming, but totally viable.

Unequipping items costs?

That isn't "looking out for your players", that's milking.

It's also more than enough to put people off playing.
