A few other observations and questions: Not sure whether level 2 items are less likely to be damaged when countering a hazard. Taking the survival manual will get you chemicals in addition to the normal rewards. Taking the shovel will get you minerals in addition to the normal rewards.
The robot planet seems to be easier than the others as it opens up a number of locations that give good items, like additional copies of the survival manual, allowing you to recycle your old one if it gets damaged and get a new one there.
If you have Emmett + 1 crew that becomes way more manageable. Deedee + 1 crew works too if you get to land on the robot planet where you can actually access enough energy to get some upgrades and additional recipes that allow you to have an expedition with the shovel and book most of the time. Even then it's a pinch on resources that really relies on expeditions with the book, and shovel to a lesser extent.
I have to say I'm wondering if the food requirement is bugged, as well as the location discovery on the other planets that locks you out of energy if you aren't Emmett.
As far as the food shortage goes I see a lot of people going for the bad advice of starving their crew 😣
I have run 4 crew a few times my advice would be make them well fed early and keep them above hungry. Usually I feed everyone first day and then stagger feed them to keep them from going hungry. I have lived to 60+ days a few times and usually end up consuming about 55 soup. I don't really see starving until like day 28+
Would only really try this strat with 6or more starting good. Remember when not playing emmit to stock up on resources , as you will constantly be crafting then recycling to make more soup after you run out of stuff to make soup with hope that helps
Upgrading should make things last longer but certain events will destroy them regardless. Like with using the armour for protecting against the contamination in the ship. Even if it's upgraded.
