Custom Cars
Has anyone looked at making their own car in the game yet? I'd like to see some classic British cars in there. Or is there a guide on how to do it?

This is all we know so far:

"Yes, you can make your own car in modelling software, than convert it
with our Unity3d script (which is free in personal edition) into *.cms
file which can be loaded into editor. In editor you can setup your
engine, suspension, seat position and all that kind of stuff, and than
bring your car into game."

Have you tried importing your models into unity personal edition then exporting with the .cms unity 3d script? That seems to be the way to get going but alas agreed we need proper instructions.

I'm at work, I will try poking around with this soon as I get home. Thanks for the crumbs here, I lost my way with this lol. Hopefully with all our minds put together we can figure it out in the mean time. Thanks.

Anyone that has done vehicle bodies, I have a question. Without ripping something from the game files, what are you doing about the underside of the car in blender/maya/whatever? Not like most games where you can just flat panel it or give it something that "looks" like the bottom of a car, the bottom is actually seen as much, if not more, than the rest of the car.

No idea then, perhaps the script is not yet available or we need a special one from red dot to begin with? I am currently working on engine sound mods which is making good progress :), who knows in the future I may be able to provide sounds for custom cars and modden versions but first the devs need to answer my questions on a few things, I am so close to nailing it completely!

If you mean like transmisson tunnel and floor pan dips etc i normally make it last by hand in 3Ds max but you don't want to go to extreme say like adding drain hole plugs and floor pan ribs etc

You want keep polys as low as possible but with this game so much of car is seen you have to do without some of the lumps bumps a real car has or other wise you have sick looking car that lags like hell once in game, all matter finding the right balance

good example is under side of hood/bonnet sometimes it pays to keep it simple

I have plans to add intercooler pipes and intercoolers which already nearly done and cold air induction

Also started work on SR20 and few aussies cars just waiting on reddot for guide on polys and if i need to export the car in sections

Some cars windows are not cut from door so door is one complete part

Excellent! Please consider looking into returning the "engines.txt" file to CMS18 so we can easily change engine power, min/max RPM and most importantly for me right now, ENGINE SOUND :).

Hmm, gave it good reading over...nothing that references what sound the car will use besides "type=engine_v8_stary" for example, but that will force the car to use a V8 engine...strange. Please consider explaining how we can make our cars use whatever sounds we want as currently the "sound = r4" line found in some vehicles config.txt files DO NOTHING and are not functional.
