Car auctions seem broken
so I have all the perks so I can tell the value of cars at the auction and the ai consistently bid over the value making it impossible to make any money buying and reselling cars, which kinda ruins the point of the whole game to me.

Is this a bug that happened recently and the devs aren't aware of it? or are they just being lazy and not fixing it?

Always been this way. The best way to make money is buy a clunker in the graveyard. Usually a high performance sports car and restore the frame/body and clean the carpet. Sometimes you can make 50K to 300K or more by just doing this depending on the car.

It seems to vary for me. Not sure what causes it. Sometimes it goes well above, sometimes right on, yesterday I got a car off auction at 5k below value. (est 30k)

The auctions are a waste of time. I'm always out bid unless I go way over the value of the car. Junkyards are good. Barns are excellent; you can buy a car and sell at immediate profit without any work on it.

IMHO, I think it depends on the car and level of stars. That being said also its kind of like the real thing when someone else really wants the car and will attempt to out bid you. I have had to pay more and also gotten a car for less. If you notice many junkyard cars are over priced. I use the junkyard mostly for parts and barn find maps, as the barn finds are the best bang for your buck most of the time as some cars are under valued.

The other part is some of the modern cars not findable in barns or junkyard, so I like to peek in auction for them to hot rod up.

Yep the auction is very aggressive you'l never get a car at a reasonable price let alone a bargain!

You can still make money. I restored a Shelby Cobra and made 2 million. I did 2 in a row and ended up with 5 million in the bank, now I have just been getting them from the junk yard. I spent 2 million restoring junk yard cars and storing them, I think what is broken is what a completely restored muscle car is valued at. I just restored a 66 C 10, all the performance parts available, all 100%. Valued at under 18000. Seams to me there is something wrong with that.

Depends on the age of the vehicle and the amount of mileage on it. So, an old vehicle with high mileage will always be worth less than a newer model or one with considerably less mileage.
