Building a Rat Rod...Looking for Tips/Tricks
I basically want to build a rat rod. Ratty, rusted looking body with 100% engine and running gear. I know it hurts the value of the car but This is one I will keep so I don't care about the money.

The problem I have is the rust is a bit too extreme. I want to tone it down some. It may take a few tries at the work bench, but the look I want can be achieved on removable body panels. The body is another story. There is no way I can find to repair the body just a little...it's all or none. Probably 30 to 40% is where I would like to be. A little bit of rust with scratchy paint...

Has anyone else tried this? Is there any tricks to get the desired look? Is it possible to damage a body? Crash it until it's at the desired %? Or repair it but not fully?

Thanks for any suggestions!

i was just in the modding forum and i noticed there was a rust mod thats supposed to control how much rust is added to cars, as far as body repairs it should allow you to repair just certain % ea time on most but sometimes it fully repairs them dep on what shape their in to begin with getting them up to or around 50-60 %.

Yes I saw that. I'm a little concerned when it comes to mods though. I'm not sure if it's a problem with this game but I had some saves get corrupted on other games due to mods (Lost 100s of hours of work) and not sure I want to take the risk. I don't know enough about how this game works yet.

i havent used any mods myself yet but am thinking about the repair all 100% mod i might try, will finally be able to repair everything including seat hopefully. But will just backup the save files and give it a whirl see what happends.

I think someone already created a "Ratt Rod" mod. YOu could just subscribe to it, then modify the files to adjust conditions of it. You'd have to do a little research on how to edit these files of course.
you can edit cars with the editor.

Maybe you're looking for something akin to this? It's a generic muscle. Bought it at the auction house. It was rated three stars when I bought it, so not too much rust. I only ever buy three stars or less from the auction, which is always where I go anymore, anyway. You can buy every car in the game there, though it might take several trips to find the car you want. The good things is, no parts are missing when buying from the auction.

I don't play with mods, but there are bunches of bad@ss mods out there.

And as Dr G. said, you can use the car editor, too. I have yet to wrap my head around it.

That's exactly the rust level I am looking for. Just a little around the bottom, not the entire body splatter painted. Will try the auction!

Awesome. Sometimes you get a good deal, and sometimes you don't. But I figured that's the best place for you to look, as far as what you're looking for. Post some pics if you want to! Descent has a good thread going called "Rides" here in the forum. Post 'em there if you're up to it. Several of us have been posting our cars there. Cheers. :)

I will post pics once I get it built. I got 3 levels to go before I can repair body panels. I'm gonna start keeping an eye on the auctions!

Good deal. Looking forward to your rat pics, bud.

I found this green machine at the auction. Just the right amount of rust. Think this will be the base for my rat rod!

Hmm, wonder if I can find two of the same car of this type, and then do a pairing similar to how they do Greased Lightning in the movie Grease? The actual ride (aka rat rod) that they drive to school, and then the over-the-top *ahem* "♥♥♥♥♥ wagon* from the song. Don't know why, but this car reminded me of that. Not sure if this model came in convertible, though, and I'm honestly not sure what car they actually used in the movie/musical.

Only major thing I'd love to see added to this game: a way to modify the frame so it can be stretched or otherwise manipulated. Make a proper "Dragula" rat rod with stretched frame and jacked-up rear end.
