I need some help with then custom gearbox on an 88% over stock engine.
So, I have a community modded 1990 Fox Body Mustang that has a vanilla non-modded engine (DOHC V8 Supercharged) and it puts out 1300+ on the dyno thanks to the tuning DLC parts. However, even on stock gearbox tune the car instantly hits the wall. Every part, including the tires, are at 100% quality, so no traction loss should be there.

I have tried setting extremely high gears (as high as 2.0 final drive and 1.5 first gear) but stil end up in the wall after two seconds of acceleration.

So any advice on better gears or maybe a different tire setup so I can actually use all 1300 horsepower would be great.

Sounds like the car you're testing may not be configured well. You can edit the config file for the car in question. Add a line into section 1[other] after line 'doorangle=x.x' named 'downForce' something like this;

downForce=1.25

And, that could make all the difference in the world.
Also, I suggested lowering Steering Sensitivity because all cars tend to pull to left or right off the line and you have to hit 'A' and / or 'D' to correct. But, if steering sensitivity is set at default 100% then, it way overcompensates and you'll just hit the wall or do doughnut's.

Do you have slicks installed on your rims?

Not sure you're understanding the gearing correctly or not. You'd want to set final drive gear ratio to 4:10 (at least) and then for each gear set them so 1st goes to 35-40, 2nd goes to 70-75, 3rd goes to 120 ish, 4th to 160 ish, 5th up around 200 mph. add a 6th gear if you want higher speeds but, the speed track isn't long enough to get much into them speeds. This is just a rough idea of gearing to speeds. And, like SkinGravel says.....be sure to put Slicks on. You can get away with racing tires for the engines down in the 600 - 700 ish hp range but, definitely slick for the ones up in the 1k range.

Another note, you may need to turn down 'Steering sensitivity' in your game settings. I have mine at 40% which works good for my taste.

That 6th gear goes a long way, for sure. I've gotten to 247 mph, but you have to fiddle with the ratios a bit.

I think I had 8 gears on that car. I'll find it real quick.

Wow....that's seeems an odd way to gear a car, lol. Imagine having it like that irl....you'd never have to shift until you got onto the highway, lol. Actually, that might be kind of nice, ha.
SkinGravel May 15, 2021 @ 7:42pm
Right? That's how those high-end supercars are geared, though. Not that the gear ratios match up irl to this game per se, but you could easily hit 60 in first gear in a Bugatti. If you live in the desert or the Great Plains, it's all good. ;) Look up the Veyron gear ratios. They're similar to what I've got.

Not exact by any means, but not dissimilar, either. Final drive is the big difference, and the eighth gear.

I'd of never known that if not for your example. Never had the luxury to drive any them fancy cars. Grew up building American Muscle cars and we never used any gearing like that, lol. Could make sense for the German Autobahn though I suppose. that...and not having to constantly shift around town, lol.

Oh man, I've never driven anything like that, either, haha. Would be amazing though!!! Look up the video on the SSC Tuatara. The fastest production car at the moment, I believe. You'll dig it, for sure. You gotta watch it, man. It is some serious badassery. I think it's in Arizona or Nevada where they set the new record.

My dream muscle would be a '71 Hemi Cuda. No way it would have those gears. Gotta have some serious HP for that. But damn, it would be awesome to feel that rumble in my bones.

The thing about my config in the screenshots is that it had more to give, if the track was longer. Same with Tuatara. It wasn't even struggling. The pilot had to back off because of the crosswind.

Yep, pretty bad assple. Kind of sucks they make all these supercars to only be 2 seater's. I'd want to take a bunch of friends on a test ride with me......just have to keep a couple buckets for them to puke into, lol. I love the 71' Hemi Cuda too btw. I hoard me some dodge's in-game, lol.

I think my car was at its end, haaaa. But there you have it. Gear ratios and slicks. Especially slicks. They'll make all the difference in this game.
SkinGravel May 15, 2021 @ 8:16pm
For sure. It's not the same without some folks along for the ride. Gotta have those buckets!

I gotta be honest, though. If I was the test pilot in that car, I'd have to do it solo. One wrong flutter, and that's all she wrote. Everyone is dead.

I've got several Dodges in my garages, too. ;)
