Can I learn about engines/vehicles?
I've actually been wanting to get into working on engines and thought it would be cool to learn from a game but is this game that in depth? Or should I just try online classes?

Neither that is something best learned hands on. The game is just that a game. But it can teach some basics on what the parts are and where they are located and maybe a bit on how they work.

Honestly, I wouldn't do online classes either. If you want to really learn about cars, its better done around people who do it for a living. I've done auto shop, many years auto parts sales, and a few years dinking around on my own vehicles with mechanic friends. The best way to learn vehicles is honestly hands on. This game is not even close to what real life is. Fun, but not close.

if you like to game and learn about cars(engines) i reccomend the game Wrench its a vr game but plays just as good with a keyboard and mouse and its focused on only 1 engine 1.6L Mazda Miata engine but its a amazing detail ofcourse real life is still a bit more complicated

Re wrench: it is very good and the closest to CMS in terms of gameplay. it has been in early access for just over 8 months. currently still lacks a lot such as various cables on the suspension. Has no interior yet, engine is missing: exhaust/intake manifolds, spark plugs/wires, coolant, radiator etc.

If you can look past the missing parts/features and don't mind the occasional bugs. Overall it's well done and gives the closest experience to real life.

FYI: it's based on two real world kit cars. The engine modeled is Mazda's 1.8L BP4W, which was used in the 1999-2000 Miata as well as the 2004-2005 Mazda speed. Although similar it's not the 1.6

To answer the first post, no you won't learn mechanics playing this game.I knew mechanics before this and I can tell you your better off taking classes. Wrench sounds interesting though, maybe a replacement for this one. Have to check it out .Thanks.
