Because in the real world, they likely would have been put in a barn when they started getting to the point where their owner couldn't afford to keep them running. Typically that indicates high useage/mileage.

There ARE low mileage cars, by the way, they are just rare. As they would be in the real world. (Been out to a few old barns, irl, with some neat old stuff in there. Never saw anything less than 60,000 miles. (Which is quite high for anything older than maybe 1979.))

Just like Mechanic said, thats just not normal in real life.
Hardly anybody buys a car and parks it.

yes and no :) its a game, why not ? 1 by model (for 55 lvl life) its not too much (to insert some pearl) in real life you find some old ferrari which have still never drive so its not an utopia.

I have found and bought lower mileage cars from the junkyards. The barns... not so much. The auctions are hit or miss. I am talking anywhere from 65k to 175k cars. The vintage cars are really hard to find. Especially one that is under 200k. I decide what I want and even built a spreadsheet in case I come across a lower mileage car. Silly I know.
However, those lower mileage cars always bring in a better profit. :steamhappy:

Mileage is very unbalanced in game, and worsest thing here - it's counts from a car year parameter, so all classic cars have mileage in range 180-500+ - this make them close to bunch of garbage.
There's only 4 gradations of mileage-to-price:
1-50000 mileage - "new" car, maximum sell price at 100% restoration, same as in Salon.
50001-100000 mileage - used car, maximum sell price is 0.8 from new one.
100001-200000 mileage - maximum sell price is 0.6 from new one.
200001+ - garbage on wheels, maximum sell price is 0.4 from new one.
(0 mileage just disables "restoration bonus" for Salon)
You can check my work spreadsheet here[docs.google.com] for details - it's in russian, but you can use superpowers of google translation ;)

If you modify year=XXXX parameter of car config (doesn't shown inside of game), you can get better mileage cars for desired locations.
Good choices are:
2002 for ~98000-189000 range of mileage, have a chance of 3 from 48 to spawn car with mileage 100000 or less.
2011 for ~48000-95000 range of mileage, have a chance of 3 from 54 to spawn car with mileage 50000 or less.
For barns use 2012, because they have a modifier, making mileage worser (stupid thing, because barns is for "forgotten" cars, or broken and never finished repairing by owner, not a garage for farmers "working horse" traveling around the world).

I already done a mod, adding more car configs with various year settings, trying to achieve some rarity of good mileage cars by adding a lots of garbage ones.
Year settings in mod:
1988 x0.4 no salon and sheds all cars.
2002 x0.4 no salon and sheds all cars.
2011 x0.4 no salon and sheds modern era cars.
2011 x0.4 sheds only classic cars.
2012 x0.4 sheds only all cars.
2015 x0.6 salon only modern cars.

Note x0.4 (x0.6) parameter - it's a price modification (uniqueMod in config), lowering price for all cars, except salon ones, which have bigger price, like in real life.
With that settings, if you buy a piece of rust from Junkyard and add a new fuel tank to it with shop price 300, overall price of car increased to 300 too, not to 750 as with "x1".
So, overall car price after restoration matches price of parts + restoration bonus.
BUT! For cars with bad mileage you got a lower final price, so all parts lose it's prices from shop one to 0.8, 0.6, 0,4 - so, restoring junk with mileage 200000+ is a waste of money (but stripping, repairing and selling parts from it makes a good profit).

Unfortunately, mod doesn't work at 100% because of game bugs - cars not allowed to spawn in sheds actually spawns here - maybe because of a bigger overall number of config variants (269). So, i leave a tip in car name, showing which year is set to a car for tracking misplaced.

Mod can be downloaded HERE[drive.google.com], it's replaces all game configs and if you have your own versions of standard cars - it's probably replaces it too, so MAKE BACKUPS (i premade a backup for standard configs and include it in zip - just in case).
