CMS 2018/2021
Is the CMS 2018 DLC worth buying, now that the new game is supposedly coming out soon?

New to the series and loved the 2021 demo, but I see the current game and DLC is on sale a few more days and tempted to just buy it in the event the new one doesn't release this year so I'll have something to hold me over while I wait. So I guess the real question is, for those of you that are more familiar with the series(and the people who make it), are you quite certain we'll likely see it launch this year? Because I'd hate to buy all the DLCs and have 2021 drop a month or two later, but it really is a tempting gamble at this point.

If '21 does release this year, you might want to wait before buying it. I wasn't around for the '18 launch, but it was plagued with a shnit-ton of bugs, from what I've read in the past. Hold off on buying '21 at launch to see what happens. You'll have '18 to tide you over no matter what.

The DLC is absolutely worth it. I'd go ahead and dive in. I bought everything on sale, too, January of '20. Can't go wrong. ;) The Chrysler DLC was released not too long after that. All good.

I think I paid around 45 bucks or so for everything, including the Chrysler DLC when it was released.

Better off getting platinum edition if it's on sale and you can afford it

Also that is whole reason RD have not set release date for CMS 21 is to try and avoid a repeat of CMS 18 launch

Won't be announced until they are satisfied with the end product

Also Playway are 100 % of the release problem

No disdain meant towards the devs at all. Anyone that's been gaming for a significant amount of time knows that the publishers are mostly the reason for contempt when a bugged-to-hell game is released.

Still gotta be candid, though, so people are well-informed on how they might spend their money. The devs don't have control over that, but we, as consumers, absolutely do. We don't want a repeat of it, either.

So hold off on buying it to make sure it's not a repeat of '18. Doesn't matter whose fault it is. Money is money, both on the corporate- and consumer-level. I wish the devs the best. They deserve it.

Does Red Dot even have a say on the release date? I'm guessing they don't.

Kinda complex it is mostly set by publisher Playway to meet quarterly sales targets

I'm hoping RD will stand there ground if they think date not achievable

I don't really want a repeat of spending first three months defending a bugged release when I'm just as annoyed as everyone else

(Personal opinion)
Generally the way the gaming industry is now I would never pre-order or buy on day one unless I'm set to deal with potential bugs and issues, it is sad times we live in but sadly this is now acceptable by industry in general standard

It's a mixture of sad and great. Seriously.

I hope they stand their ground, too, but it's either push out, or get out.

And hey, to Red Dot's credit: I've gotten my money's worth out of CMS18 ten-fold. I've put more hours into this game than any other. I just enjoy the loop. Folks just need to reject the instant gratification nowadays with games, and be patient, to see whether or not the game will be worth a fluck. I've done that myself before, for sure, many times. Want it now, and all the crap that comes with it!

But that's probably not going to happen.

Incentive plays on addiction, and addiction motivates the incentive. The publishers know what they're doing. No doubt about it. Like any other media.

But even still, games are freaking BADASS these days, because this media went mainsteam, and they're only going to get better. I've been playing games since 1983. Granted, I was a young, ignorant kid in '83, but in hindsight, it was only a matter of time before gaming goes mainstream. And that's why we have some amazing creations today.

It's an oversimplification, but those are a couple reasons why it's a mix of sad and great.

Also, you might consider that it took 2 years after the release of 2018 for all these DLC to come out. So, it could be like that for the 2021 version. The base game comes out.....let's say in late August or September maybe but, then it will be a DLC here n there over a long period of time. It's not going to be a HUGE upgrade from what the 2018 version is anyhow. And, you can get the Platinum 2018 version on sale and have a BUNCH of DLC instantaneously. Play it for a year and jump to the new one after some more DLC have come out for it. It's up to you of course, how you might want to go with it.

You all make a good point. Normally I don't buy anything on day one due to possible launch issues(playing Elder Scrolls/Fallout games on console back in the day convinced me of that..), and it's been so long since I have that I'd forgotten all about it. I'd also imagine, even though there are supposedly 72 cars in the base game, we wouldn't get any DLC for it for quite some time(or at least it'd take a while to get all 2018's DLCs, if they even included them).

Do they add in DLC cars from the older versions to the new games? I know there's even a CMS 2014/2015 so it'd seem odd if they didn't, though I've heard there's always licensing issues involved.
Mardoin69 May 23, 2021 @ 6:59am
So, with the licensing.....CMS2015 paid a licensing fee to car companies in order to use their logo's / designs in their game. That fee only applies to that game. So, when they create a new game.....CMS2018.....they had to pay those fee's again in order to create the DLC's for THAT game. The same will happen with the new version because they are separate instances of the logo useage. So, no....they wouldn't be able to simply throw in the same car's they had DLC for in CMS2018.......unless....they already purchased some of them logo rights prior to launch. That's not usual though cuz, the company would want to recoup their development costs prior to spending more on a game they don't know if it will be a huge success. Ofc, they might be counting their chickens before the egg's hatched due to their previous success with this game series.

@Fulysic is there any sense that for modders CMS21 will be compatible with '18s cars? And depending what's added could there be additional things to mod?
