Same car but no engine swap?
Quick question, sorry if I'm being a dumbarse.

Have a Bolt Atlanta that I like. Then at auction saw a Bolt Atlanta Supercharged, got excited and bought it. My plan was to swap the engines between the two.
I successfully put that standard 1 carb engine into the auction supercharged car (yes!). Then discovered couldn't put the supercharged engine into my original car. Checked the list of engines that fit, and sure enough Supercharged not there (noooo!).

Why not? Same car make and model, should be simple? I'm missing something?

You'd want to look at various different car config files to get a good feel for how it's done. But, it would be in section 6 under 'Engine' and there is a line called 'SwapOptions=' which list's the available engine's for it. Obviously, if it don't have the 'SwapOptions=' line is cuz it's only allowed the main engine. But, you can add it. Ofc, adding engine's may result in misalignment issues with driveline's and exhaust depending which engine's you add. This ofc can be fixed in 'Car Editor' but, you'll want to watch a guide on doing all this.

It's not the same model. The Bolt Atlanta, you grown to like so much unfortunately seems to be the "F-Mill" variant. Thís is the one with the old, blue inline-6-cylinder engine and you can't swap these (without editing the config file, as @Mardoin69 wrote).

There are some cars in this game, that have this F-Mill-appendix and they all have in common, that you can't swap the old (weak) i6-engine.

Hmm. The name of both cars definitely do not have F-Mill in them. I avoided buying a F-Mill version in the auction sicne I was dubious about engine compatibility. Or do you mean that one of my cars is considered F-Mill by the game even though it doesn't have that title?

I suspected this may be the case, but was rather hoping I was just being dumb. While I certainly ma capable of editing config files (doesn't scare me) this game is my go to chill right now. Chill for me = no fussing. But, looks like I've got to step up and give it a go.
Thanks muchly for the advice.

Follow-up of result.
Edited the config and successfully swapped the engine. The ram scoop sticks through the hood of course, but it looks fine. Looks hell of a lot better than the original supercharged car that doesn't let you put a hood on it. Think i'll go mod the supercharged config to allow a hood too. Don't know why a car in the game would be setup to not allow a hood anyhow... looks silly. Thanks again.

For anyone else who doesn't want to bother editing configs... is much simpler than expected.
Devs... why not go apply both fixes as standard?

I was mistaken!
The supercharged OHV really only fits in the "Supercharged"-variant, so that's why, you couldn't put it in the normal version (or the "Trespasser") without editing the config files.
And that's because of the missing hood... I also don't like these cars without a hood, it just looks weird.
Sorry for the confusion, glad, it worked out for you!

No worries. Did do a few checks after your post and learned some things.
Yeah, no hood is just weird. Wouldn't even be difficult for devs to make a hood for that car variant, make it properly a variant.

Alright then!
btw: Now that you started to fiddle around with the config files and if you don't mind the supercharger sticking out, you can just add a hood to the Bolt Atlanta Supercharged by removing the
[tuning] hood=EMPTY
lines from the bodyconfig3.txt file.

Can I use any I6 engine with F Mills, or just that crappy blue one

Unlike the V8's--which have a bunch that will line up the same within the engine compartment (driveline + exhaust)--the i6 engines each have their own exhaust styles and driveline alignment. So, this means if you did swap them, things wouldn't be line up right and that would look ridiculous ofc. But, you could make your own variant of the car and use Car Editor to line up a different motor in it--instead of the blue I6 engine.
