Performance optimization plans?
What is the plan for optimizing performance for CMS 2018? My computer is not stellar, but with CMS 2015 I was able to pull at least 40 fps on medium settings at 1600 x 900. However, with CMS 2018, I can barely get 30 fps on low settings at 720p, and just looking at the cars brings it down to 20 fps. Since 2018 is on the same engine as 2015, is it safe to say that we can expect improved performance in the near future?

Not really, no. There might be small improvements here and there, but this game is a lot more graphically demanding than 2015, regardless of engine. There are higher resolution textures, better lighting, etc. That's progress.

Like Hypertext said, this game just is a lot more graphically demanding. CMS15 is a fairly easy game to run and if you could only run it on medium settings at 900p then low settings 720p is about right for CMS18.

I understand what you guys are saying, however there is still one thing that bothers me. If this is true, and the medium settings of CMS 2015 are now the low settings of CMS 2018, then shouldnt that mean I can get the same quality out of 2018, even though that same quality would be at low settings now? Why does it both look and run so much worse compared to CMS 2015?

Comparing my hardware performance when running 2018, its obvious that my graphics card is the culprit, however it has never really had issues with texture sizes, as there is only a 1 FPS hit in most games if it is affected at all (also, I ran 2015 at the highest texture settings available with no issues), so shouldnt the texture size not matter then?

As for other rendering aspects, from what I see, not much has changed in terms of the 3D models used in the game. Hell, in 2015 I could even have shadows, floor reflections, and anti-aliasing on and get consistent performance. I even forced some rendering options not accessible in-game through the nvidia control panel (disabled ambient occlusion and texture filtering, changed power management to max performance, etc.), and only saw minimal improvements.

I'm not saying you guys are wrong, I just am trying to better explain my situation and hopefully find ways to squeeze out some frames. Unfortunately, I do not have a desktop, and am a college student with little income to spare, so I cant really upgrade my hardware.

My specs:

Model: HP Envy 15-j059nr Notebook

OS: Windows 10 64 bit (had 7 and 8 before it)

CPU: Intel Core i7-4700MQ @ 2.4 GHz w/ 6MB cache, boost up to 3.4 GHz
(I dont think the CPU performance is the issue, as it only is utilizing around 8% when the game is running)

RAM: 8 GB DDR3 SDRAM

Dedicated GPU: Nvdia Ge-Force GT740M

Integrated GPU: Intel HD Graphics 4600

The biggest problem is the unity engine. The game engine is very hungry for graphic power and your gpu is not really a gaming gpu.
If your notebook would have a gtx instead of a gt you would be able to play better. And it should be a gtx 760 or better.

Yeah, I really wish PC's could use external GPU's...now I need to pay for a whole PC instead of just buying a better GPU.

They can. Yours probably can't, but it is a thing that PCs can do.
