Then you did it wrong, because there is a big difference depending on which tires you are using and on which axle. And, you know, you can tune your gearbox. Finding the appropriate gear rations helps a bit too.
Ofc you cant expect driving like in a racing sim. Because game is not a racing sim.
Hi, Im not an expert on the subject, I know only basic stuff.
In theory, slicks have smooth tread which means the surface touching the road is the biggest possible - those tires give you the best grip, the best traction. When using slicks you can make sharp turns at higher speeds. Just look at some Formula 1 races. When it's dry, all the drivers are using slicks. Only when it's rainy they change to intermediate or wet tires (both types are tires with different tread pattern, not smooth like the slicks), depending on how much water there is on the track.
In game - if you use slicks only on the driving axle (rear axle in case of RWD cars) and racing tires on the front, car is more stable, but turning is harder. You have to brake earlier in order to turn. Using 2x2 slicks (slicks on both axles) on the other hand allows you to drift a bit around corners, which makes turning easier and "more fun".
Why devs have decided to implement it this way - no idea. Basically slicks should make turning more easier, even at higher speeds, without any drifting at all. Maybe there are some restrictions in the game engine and they had no other choice. But again - the game is a mechanic simulator, not a racing simulator.
Nevertheless, slicks are still the better choice compared to normal/racing tires in cms2018, especially if you have a powerful car with lots of HP. A combination of slicks (rear) and racing tires (front) is good for drag racing, because you are driving in a straight line only anyway.
