so after the latest update in the patch notes it says engine swaps, im just wondering how you swap the engines on cars im asuming this is a thing now ? if so can we make up any engine we please on the engine stand then place them in any car or is it more like a preset system like it was in cms 2015 ? either way im curious to know what and how exactly this works as i havnt seen any evidence of this since the update or certainly cant see how you swap engines any suggestions \ feedback greatly appreciated

Today there are maybe at least 5 threads like yours, made by guys asking how to engine swap. Maybe try using the search function first, before posting?

You dont swap anything. You need to know which engines can fit in your car (you can see this in the properties of your car). Then go to the engine stand, choose one of the available engines for your car and build it from scratch.

m3c0, I have a question for you because I do things differently. I like to restore cars with thier original block. Before the patch I would remove the engine and disassemble it on the stand. I would then take the block and reinstall it with the hoist, remove it directly from the car, and then repair it with all the other engine stuff. I would put the rebuilt block directly into the car, remove it with the hoist, and then reassemble it on the stand. After that it would go right back in with the hoist and I was done. Since the patch I can't install / repair / even find the block once I take it off the stand. Do you have any idea what's going on?

Hi mate, I did the same thing like 1 or 2 hours ago. I had an Echos Cobra from junkyard (edited config) and wanted to restore it. But I wanted to keep the old V8 engine (Echos Cobra can have ether the generic V8 or the V8 boss engine from Ford DLC). Basically in the car there was only the engine block. I took it off, repaired it on the bench and I put it back in the car again (only the repaired engine block, nothing else), just to be sure game will recognise it when it is finished.

I removed it again. I went back to the engine stand and I selected the same V8 DOHC type of engine I wanted to rebuild. And thats it, there was the "ghost" outline and I could insert the repaired engine block with no issues. When the engine was fully rebuilt and I was done with it I could put it back in the car just the way I did before the patch...

I have no idea why you cant find your engine block.. Ill rebuild another car tomorrow, I will mess around with the engine and will try to make it disappear :)

Thanks. I did end up finding the block, repairing it, built it back up on the stand, but the hoist won't put it in the car. One detail I left out is that the car is a mod, in that it's a Dodge Charger (seperate version with the Hemi engine) created in the Editor. I gave up on the hoist, installed a new block in the car and built it in the engine bay. I hope this is not a permenent problem, as one of the coolest parts of this game was restoring engines on the stand and putting them in complete. If I have to go back to the 2015 way of doing it I might just be bummed out about it.

I also tried again with another car, the Delray Custom, which has its original engine. Worked just like before the patch. So somewhere in the patch the hoist started acting up on a modded Charger with the Hemi. Further testing will tell which cars are affected. I like creating different versions of cars and then collecting them from the auction and junkyard and restoring them in their original colours. Some people do that in real life but they're like, millionaires. That's why I like this game so much. I get to be a millionaire.

Lol. You left out not one detail mate. You left out the most important detail :)

You do realise that a huge amount (if not all) of modded cars are affected by the recent update, right? And modders need to adjust all their mods accordingly? And this will take time, you cant expect that modders will immediately update all their cars... If not updated, some community cars will just not let you change the engine, but others might not work at all.

Just give them time and enjoy your game, there are plenty of great vanilla or DLC cars to play with.

Yepp, happens a lot ;). A great thing about the search function of the forum is the fact that you might learn something new about another issue, while looking for your answers.

I can't get it to work even with a base game car and an engine that's on the list of swap options. The engine lift simply won't let me install an engine that isn't the one to the left on the status panel, even if it is in the swap options list. I've tried building it on the stand and moving it to the car, inside the car itself and it just won't let me.

Nevermind. I'm a dope. I built a V8 Hemi instead of a V8 (OHV) Hemi.
