find your car and compared what you have done to what's in the list, that may help
Oh come on, you are spoiling him! Why ? Let him have fun with this game! Whats the point of a puzzle game if you already know all the answers?
Now you will remember this for any other vehicle..
It's depending on everyone's taste and love of discovering the game. It's not because you and also OP it seems (and I by the way) would not really look into that helper, that I shoud not give that link to that very nicely put guide. Some people prefer some hard help. Just don't think everyone is the same. Simply give the info, and let the guy that asked for help to decide what he wants to do with said info.
Maybe you did not miss it the first time, BUT as those mission cars (if it was one) needs to have 100% cars (as opposed to other regular jobs) you maybe have bought the right part, but you did maybe switched parts and you dropped one that was not fully damaged, in the position you should have a 100% part... and that fails to trigger the job as done.
Glad you found it, and that's why getting the blue outlined parts is very useful, as you know which you truely need to change. It's most usefull with bushes, pistons, pistons rings, basically any parts where you can swap parts. it's obviously less usefull with gearbox related elements
Im glad you found it mate! And most important thing is you found it yourself, as warcatt00 said. I think it's so much more satisfying when you figure it out alone, even if you fail a couple of times at the beginning. And dont get me wrong, the guide BonPadre gave you is a really nice one. But after repairing a couple of cars, you will know everything you need to know, you wont need such a help at all.
Ofc, there are some other really useful guides too, warcatt00's guide is a very nice and detailed one. I personally like very much this one too:

Later in the game, when you start playing/experimenting with different tires/rims sizes, you might want to know what were the default numbers/names of tires, rims, interior. And this guide will help you a lot.
Cheers!
One question though, ive had to pretty much strip the running gear off this 4x4, is there a way to see all the parts needed when in the shop ?
at the moment with my poor memory i have to see 1 part, go to the shop to buy it, then come back to see the next one, when you got a list as long as my arm this takes a while, is there an easy way round this ?
Yes, use your phone to make a picture of the parts you need to buy :)
Or you can try to use the in-game shopping list which is, lets say, not very user friendly. I cant remember at which lvl you unlock it though.
Best way to use this list is to check the suspension parts when still on car, with the help of the examination mode. Almost all those parts can be examined this way. After doing so, game will show you their condition. When still mounted on car, you just right-click on the parts you want to buy and add them to the shopping list.
But again, this feature leaves much to be desired... It becomes very unpractical when you need to buy a lot of parts later, when you get the bigger jobs.
But dont worry, at some point you will get used to all the different parts. You will just go in the shop and buy everything you need at once :) And yes, unlocking the tablet helps a lot.
I used the engine hoist for the first time yesterday, had a broken piston, it was a V8 so decided to remove to work on it, stripped it all down, changed the piston and rings, rebuilt, took me an hour, then realised the bad rings wasnt on the piston i removed
The thing i noticed and might be a bug, is once you remove the engine it doesnt register the parts on the list when you right click on the car, just sees it as all parts missing (understandable as they are), but would be good if you can get a new list when right clicking on the engine when its on the engine hoist so you can see what parts need replacing
So very not user friendly. It really doesn't help at all it's so poorly implemented. I too suffer from bad memory and trying to use the shopping list is like:
Go to shopping list, check part, exit shopping list, go to shop, buy part, exit shop, go to shopping list, check next part, exit shopping list, go to shop, buy next part, exit shop, go to shopping list, check next part, exit shopping list, go to shop, etc, etc, etc.
I mean seriously WHY is there not just a "Buy all the parts on the shopping list" button, even without that why the frick can't I at least check what's on my shopping list WHILE I'M IN THE SHOP. What is even the point of the shopping list without such absolutely basic functionality.
I've resorted to just using a paper notepad for basically the same result but without having to click in and out of the shop 20 times to check whats actually on the list.
This is what im like, but im lucky to have 2 monitors, i copy and paste a screen shot onto the second monitor, or like was suggested to take a picture with your phone
But yea, im not sure why we cant see the list whilst you're in the shop,
It would be like going shopping but leaving your list at home...
