Tracking engine parts for repair/replace
Can we please have the tracking of parts to repair/replace extend to the engine when it's not installed? Tracking which piston I need to replace is exasperating if I have to go reinstall the engine to see if I got the right one.

And yes I know I could write it down, but this is a game that already tracks some of it - let's track it all.

You can examine the parts (you may need testing equipment) and then use the overview mode when looking at it to see the part conditions based on color (green is good, red is bad, everything else is a gradient between them).

True, however I'm talking about taking an order and being required to replace specific parts with a given quality in order to finish it. Once the engine is out of the car, I can't see the highlighted parts anymore - and unless I'm missing something you must replace the specific parts with the given quality in exactly those locations (i.e. cylinder 8 piston/conrod is dead, new one must be 100% and it must go in cylinder 8).

So if you economize and try to buy only the parts you need to replace you must know which particular places they go. That currently seems impossible unless you remember or write it down.

You can see this information if the engine is in the car, but not when it's on the stand, which I think should change.

Just do a compression prior to disable then on the order, click the star on the piston or ring line. This will place a blue outline on that part location.

Forgot about that. If you have discovered the broken part (examined it), you can then click the white star next to the part name in the Work Order, and it will show you where the part is.

That's what I'm referring to, actually - the blue outline that tells you what part needs to be replaced. Unless I'm missing something that doesn't happen on the engine when it's out of the car. Is it supposed to? I've never found it to, maybe I'm doing something wrong.

Don’t know about when engine is outside of car on the stand. I’ve never bothered using stand or hoist. I just always rip it apart from either engine bay or while up on lift. After running compression test, I always know how much I have to tear apart when looking for “noise in engine compartment”. If no piston, ring or crankshaft is bad, at worst you’re taking off heads or transmission (depending on where timing is) or the front suspension.

If there is a piston/ring, I click stars then I just rip everything off until pistons are exposed in block, raise lift, drain oil and then take off oil pan and caps.

ts is exactly right!
blue outline for discovered bad engine parts, which is normally visible when you click on a star in parts list WHILE the engine is IN the car, - this very blue outline disappears when you put engine on a stand.
i suppose it's part of current game mechanics - parts that are removed from the car can not be outlined, and putting the engine on a stand counts as its removal.

this should be fixed, assembling engine on a stand is more convenient, apart from that issue.
