Check up your inventory. There can be some items called "case"
Any idea regarding those "blue" tasks ?
Personally sold more than 100 restored cars (and you can check that from achievements) and I never got any crates from those sales myself. Even with the last perk unlocked (the lucky one).
So unless there is a mod that change that crates rules, playing Vanilla will probably never get you crates for selling restored cars, nor buying cars from junkyard and barns.
And you can trust me on that, as I ALWAYS empty my inventory before doing restorations and after selling a car (as I stockpile crates in my warehouse on a specific tab).
So 100% sure I never had one from buying or selling cars.
What could have happened though.... you LEVELED UP during a restoration and then from that you got a map
[EDIT : You never get loose maps (outside of a crate) from a car. you only get those loose maps by leveling up) ]

All the crates I got (and I get them often for that) were from completing JOBS (either mission [blue ones] or regular)

There again, you get a new mission available after you level up. So unless you have completed already all missions available, your next available blue mission will be from a level up. (there are less missions than levels. So If you are max level, and you don't have any blue mission, you have done them all)
And again, as loose maps are related to leveling up, either you reached max level and only option to get new maps are crates, or you need to level up to get one map.
Hence why I claim that early on, barns are wasted if you go there just for parts....
Kepp barns maps only to buy cars in better condition than junkyard ones.
Maybe I got the special version of the game, eh? :)
I know I have no mods installed, it is all default dev game 100%...
I had so many maps at the start I was glad to get the storage to put them all into because the paint shop was not available. And I didn't want to just collect cars the day it was. Which reminds me, I should do a few costomer cars. I think I been ignoring them long enough. Not like I risk being broke now...
