Original factory colors
So is anyone else as OCD as to scour the internet for vintage dealership paint chip cards and then painstakingly eyedropping the different colors and noting down the HSB values so that you can set the sliders in the paint booth to those values and paint the cars you restore in proper time-period correct real-life factory paint colors?

...Or is that just me? >~_^< So far, I have, in my test profile (which utilizes mods and money cheats), three Dodge Challengers, in Spinnaker White, Plum Crazy Purple and one in Panther Pink awaiting restoration, a Delray Custom in Dusk Pearl, I built and sold a Ferrari 250GT Berlinetta in Rosso Corsa, and a Chevrolet Camaro in Butternut Yellow >^_^<

*chuckles* Also so far I have about two pages of HSB values plus the proper names of the paint colors for a number of the cars in-game as well as modded ones, and about a dozen more paint chip charts to go through.

If anyone is interested in recreating that level of real-life detail for their restoration projects, I can post the list of values >~_^<

Glad to see I'm not the only one >~_^< I'll work on typing everything out nice and neat (it's hand-scribbled at the moment) so I can post what I have to far soon!

Oh! Well now, that'll save me a whole lot of trouble, won't it? >~_^< I'll still keep my list for the mod cars though, and several random colors from the same paint manufacturer for variety, but thank you anyway >^_^<

I actually spent hours researching all the color codes for factory 1970 Challengers and 1968 Chargers. I wrote down the most accurate ones I could get for their colors

I would still grab that list if you made it! Factory colours are great!

The Dodge and Mazda DLC have the factory colors hard coded in the config file (you always get a factory color). You can hard code your own colors by adding a line to the config for "allowedColors=" followed by a comma seperated list of the hex values.( eg. #000000 is black and #ffffff is white.) Also Photoshop shows the HSB and Hex values for colors.
When I do an editor mod I always hard code the colors I want.

Devs could use it and also set another factory color than white or light grey ... would be a starting point :p

The factory colors I am referring to are the actual colors the Dodge and Mazda factories painted their cars. They would show up as the "current color" on the status screen. For example, if you buy a Challenger at the Junkyard it will be painted in an authentic Dodge color.
I am not referring to the "factory color" on the status screen. I have no idea where those are generated.

yes, understood and it's a good idea. So ... Devs could use them as factory colors in-game ;) (would have sense)

I am, as a matter of fact, still working on it! I added 1959-'65 VW colors, looked up similar era British Leyland/BMC colors, and am looking for Oldsmobile Cutlass/442 colors currently, as well as some Mercedes and Bronco colors >~_^<

There's an easier way to do this so long as you don't want to add a livery.

Just make a copy of one of the liveries, open it up in gimp or photoshop, fill the whole thing with the factory color (you can set the color by the hex value, which can usually be found online), and save the copy of the livery as the name of the color.

May I ask where you are getting your paint codes?

You may, and I will even answer >~_^< I find original dealership paint chip charts online from the proper time period, eyedrop the color samples, then write down the HSB values.
i will admit that in some cases that's not very accurate, depending on whether the chip chart I find is faded or otherwise discolored (as I noticed, for instance, with my favorite VW color Gulf Blue which came out quite a bit darker than it should be)
