irl hell yeah I'd replace them all but since this is a game and (I'm assuming) I can't force the customer to pay for extra things being replaced, I'm not gonna spend my own money replacing extra parts that don't need it.
That works most of the time, but when you have to take all the piston's out to replace the engine block...
You have to remove everything to get the block out to be repaired or replaced. There's no way around that. All pistons have to come out to replace the block, even if only 3 of 4 need to be replaced.
Yes I'm aware of this, and I did do it, but I had the entire engine on the engine stand working on it and the blue only glows in the vehicle. I tried referencing the blue outline but obviously got mixed up about which end was which when I was putting the pistons back in lol. As annoying as it is to raise and lower the lift multiple times when taking an engine completely down, I'm now just leaving them in the vehicle so I can use the blue to guide me during reassembly if I have to fully dismantle it.
That said, it's still incredibly dumb that reused parts have to be reused in the same positions they came from or the game gets angry and doesn't count the work as finished.
Start assembling the block with the unchanged (original) piston. if it is rejected, try the next bore till you find the bore that accepts it. You can then insert the new ones.
It might be an intended behaviour to add a closer sense of realism to the sumulation/game.
In reality, if an engine is sripped down, the original moving parts being re-used should be re-assembled back in their original positions because they have been "bedded-inn" to those relative specific positions. This would apply to parts like cam followers/buckets, tappets, valve and valve spring assemblies, bearing shells and caps, pistons etc...
Also in realty, it makes sense to replace all four pistons as a matched set if three pistons and the block need to be replaced with new items.
Understandably it is a game, but as already mentioned, the re-useable part can be utilised on a different job, so it is not a total waste.
I take brakes completely apart all the time and the right parts never end up back where they were supposed to.
I'd assume the bottom left of the order screen read replace parts with at least 100% If that was the case then the games kind of acting as it should.
Had it said replace with at least 65% and your wrong piston was at 73% I'm sure it would have accepted the work
Yeah but that replace with 100% only applies to the parts that need replacing and are on the checklist. Anything else can keep the parts it started with, in this case a 60something % piston. It was fine to reuse that one, but ONLY if the position it was in at the start.
Also the "issue" only applies to story orders. Regular jobs are not picky as long as every parts is above the require percentage.
I know it only applies to the ones on the list, I just meant I would have replaced all anyway. The extra cost of a piston and rings would have been worth it to me.
Your post says you had to replace 3 of 4, so of course the one needs to go back where it started because the game wants you to replace the other 3 with parts of 100%. The mission can only work on a certain algorithm (replace specific part with x amount) and not the logical fact of "this engine could run"
