Gearbox, differential and transfer case repairs
I'm also thoroughly enjoying the game as well. Every game has bugs at first. Good to see they are being fixed quickly. Still a better launch than Mass Effect Andromeda!

I'm sure I'm not the only one who would like to be able to REBUILD a gearbox/transfer case/differential. Lets face it, in the real world, you don't throw a gearbox in the bin. you pull it to pieces, replace the bearings and gears if needed etc, and put it back together and it's working as new.

This is something I've wanted implemented since CMS14 and I'm hoping maybe it'll be looked into in CMS18

Does anyone agree or disagree?

Cheers

To be quite honest, RedDot missed a great opportunity. They already have a system where you have to assemble parts yourself before you mount them on the car. You do it with wheels, shocks and even whole engines which you can hold in your inventory. However, there are a whole bunch of other situations where this system COULD be used but isn't. Break Calipers are a good example, as are all the suspension swingarms which require additional bushings to mount.

The gearbox is the same way. The game could still let us pull the Gearbox out as a whole item and buy a whole new one at significant markup, but also provide a worktable or a stand where it can be taken apart, same as the Engine Stand. That way you retain the legacy "Gearbox is one whole unit" approach, but you can also attempt to pull it apart and fix individual worn components.

See post #12:

In real world garages don't dismantle the gearboxes, they exchange it as a complete unit with a new or refurbished gearbox (or an used one from the junkyard).

Not all garages have paint cabins neither, or repair body damage but we have it in game.

True working on gearboxes can be considered specialist work but i don't think all garages will shy away from working on them. We should not because all else will get boring soon.

And how much more complex can it be then dismanteling/building up a OHV 8 cylinder engine in the game.....all those rocker arms, pushing rods, grouped piston parts and timing parts.....could as well be cog wheels, axles housings and rings and it wouldn't be more complex, just different.

And in the case of auto transmissions a torque converter instead of those boring standard clutch parts every car has.

The OHV 8 is not much complex because there are many of the same parts. An OHV 16 would be same complex, ist would use nearly the same parts but more of them.

In a gearbox you have much more different parts than in an engine. And with that bad shop system ingame it would be a mess.

This is not true.

i know 2 people that had a grinding noise in the gearbox. both had the gearbox completely rebuild at the garage.

+1

This would be really really nice!
I would pay for it if they only could add it with a paid dlc.

You could always make it a skill and put it in the progression system. I mean, I need to be level 35 in order to repair damaged body panels. Why not include a Gearbox Stand in the Tier 3 garage upgrade to signify we're gotten considerably better? I mean, if I can magically divine the condition of 30 pieces on a car from simply looking at it parked at the door, surely I can take apart and put together a gearbox.

I think almost all players would enjoy other type more challenging work ( on the transmissions ) more then yet another brand car with under the skin exactly the same engine and parts as all the rest of the cars. That gets repetitive soon, and the xp progression system is already kind of unforgiving in that...by the time you reach lvl 32 and can fully restore cars you are probably fed up with all standard parts an jobs...

I buy every DLC but i'm often a bit dissapointed to find 80-90 % of all parts are just the standard stuff all cars have. Especially the clutch parts.....

My gearbox was stuffed in my Suzuki. Was $800 to have it rebuilt or $1200 for a swap for a low km, working gearbox. Why wouldn't you pay the $800 to rebuild it.

No self respecting "simulator" should be without them. Easily one of the most glaring oversights in the game IMHO.

Given the simplified nature of everything but inventory and the list it would be so easy to do them. Replace the clutch pieces with a Torque Converter and make a couple Automatics and done. It's actually easier to make them than Manuel's...

I feel the real reason is having to do the interior stuff for them. Still, having a manual shift Luxor is just plain DOH..!

Cheers..!

i definitely agree, differential and gearbox repairing would be great! i initially thought this game had it but was dissapointed when i bought it and it was just the plain gearbox and differential, no internal components to it. i support, this game needs this feature
