Engine Stand usefulness
Is the engine stand useful at all before unlocking the engine crane? If it's not useful, then why is it one of the first tools that the garage is equipped with, yet the engine crane is not?

they go hand in hand the crane drags the engine out of the engine bay, then sends it to the stand..

and you dont see it move or guide it or anything (like in MSC) it macially moves invisibily to each stage/location like the oil drainer moves. when the engine is on the crane you cant even see it let alone interact with it. its only when you tell the crane to send it to the stand can you see and interact with it.

I know that, but what I am saying is what usefulness is the stand without unlocking the crane until level 12?
Shane Jul 30, 2017 @ 10:47am
none (i dont think) i was under the impression they unlocked together, at least was both unlocked when i used it anyway, which is why i said they go hand in hand

to the best of my knowledge they both unlocked when i upgraded to the second garage

unless you can mount a block on the stand from your inventory ?
but then you still need the crane to get it to a car

PS ive not tried that BTW

I just tried. You can't put an engine block alone on the stand, you need an engine taken out of a car with the crane to put on the stand, so that the stand acts as a 'car' that you can work on for that specific engine. Therefore, the engine stand is completely useless and a waste of space until you unlock the engine crane at level 12.

well in that case, yea totally agree lmao

see i tried it when i first got game, said locked, and then i never touched it until i was lv.13 again by which time both worked

The stand is nice to tear engine blocks apart, but turning the engien around on it is a pain and the location of the engine is totally wrong, so you have part of the engine stand inside your engine, making it tricky to take certain parts off it, or put on it.
Also you can't buy 'oil drain plug', 'oil fill plug' or 'oil dipstick', so you can't build an engine from scratch either.

Im in a worse situation. My repair bench no longer works so when i full restore i HAVE to build from scratch but cannot complete because of plug and dip.

*Update* In case you do not know, shure you can build a custom engine, I found it out the hard way though, but here is my story.

I had 20,000 went to the barn and got me a junk car for 16,000 seemed like a bargin right, not really everything was pretty munch shot except for a few, things I think the guy had teh same thoughts I did but never finished it, so painted it really nice to sell it. So I took it home and the body parts I collect they are worth a hefty sum no matter what condiction because they are body parts, the engine parts degrade, so I bought a car with a lemon as a engine, it was missing a air filter, air filter cap and starter, so I added that hoping it would start. Nope so I got a little more creative and went to some more barns and one of the last few bars I seen my cars engine block, I old myself I just got to have it. When I got back to the shop I was disappointed because the engine block was in the exast same condiction as the otherone I had, I took it out to resemble it to see what parts needed replacing, so I removed the old engine from the egine stand I thought I could just place the block thure from inventory, but no engine to be found. So I went to the work bench and tried to repair the block I just got, I repaired it twice and it went from orange 30 condiction to yellow and I did it again and it went to 90%, So I decided to use that engine block as a engine this is how I did it.:

I went to the car that had no engine in it, click on the bar to enter remove engine parts mode, and click on the green add egine parts to change modes now click and hold the outline of the engine block and choose the engine block it will be added to the car and as soon as it is added a dipstick will spawn. Now use the crane take the engine out of the car and drag the engine over to the engine stand and that is how you get a new engine from a engine block.

So engine blocks come with a dipstick, and oil pans come with a oil plug.
So I hope this helps.

To me, engine stand is only useful if you are doing complete engine overhaul or a work order involving pistons, crankshaft or engine block.

These specifically, because without pulling the engine out you have to go up and down on the lift several times to do said stuff (bottom side: oilpan, crankshaf caps, rod caps -> top side: pistons and rings -> bottom side: crankshaft -> top side: engine block itself).

On the stand everything is accessible.

How thick are you. This thread is 3 months old.

I do see your point, but that is not the purpose of this thread. I had asked if the engine stand had any usefulness before unlocking the crane with the second garage expansion at level 12. To me, it doesn't make sense for the stand to be one of the first tools available (before even the repair bench, which to me is infinitely more useful to have first) if you can't use it until the second expansion.

I suppose so, but it has to be somewhere... And having it near the computer/shop is handy (untill you have the tablet ofc)

I'd love to be able to move that stuff to another location. The glare from the lights where this thing sits is horrific. There's a ton of wasted space on the other side of the 2nd bay I'd use... And I'd move that @#$% toolbox by the spring press. But I digest...

If you didn't notice the engine stand in the first shop is only supposed to be decoratative, something to keep you motivated. Not the shop in the tuturial, all the stuff is unlucked in that shop for some reason to show you what you have to look forward too.
