How does the engine hoist work?

I finally got a car where it seems to make sense to pull the engine out and disassemble it on the hoist since the customer is an idiot and doesn't know what he wants. However, I can't seem to find a way to do that. The engine hist keeps telling me I have no engine to hoist and I can't find a way to pull it out of the car any other way. What am I supposed to do?

Didnt do it but i am pretty sure you have to disconnect the engine from the gearbox first. But the game is so buggy it may happen it just doesn't work at all.

I thought it would pull the engine with the gearbox. So, do I just disassemble and "remove" the garbox for this to work?

No you must not. Just move the big tool to the lift. Than use pull off engine. Than you have to go to the smaller red tool ( In german it has a wrong translation so don´t know how its named) and press put the engine here.
Than you can turn the engine arounf and remove parts

If you have pulled the engine out of the engine bay, it is not shown. Its invisible until you put it on the small engine holder

Wait, so there are actually two engine-related tools? OK, I've only been trying to use one of them so far. So what you're saying is I use one of the tools to pull out the engine, and from there move it to the other where I can work on it? OK, I'll have a look. Thanks for the advise.

Nope, still can't find it. The only machine I can find is called an "Engine Crane." It has five options:

Take off engine from crate (which is greyed-out)
Add engine into crate (which tells me I have no engine to add)
Rotate engine left
Rotate engine right
and some kind of fifth option which says "Unlock to use."

I thought maybe I have to buy an upgrade for that, but I couldn't find an upgrade that had to do with the Engine Crane.

Youre right. In the tutorial you have the other big tool. Don´t know how it is called. Maybe you will get it later in game. There you have the option to remove engine from bay or retrofit it.

I finally figured it out. There's another machine I have to use before the Engine Crane. It's some kind of Engine Hoist which simply doesn't exist in my garage. I don't know how to get one, either, since it's not mentioned in any of my upgrades. I found one in the tutorial, but it was sort of buggy. The engine is invisible in the Engine Hoist, and then it's not placed properly on the Engine Crane - it's too far back and clipping with the crane.

yes, thats what i´ve seen too. But my engine was shown correct on the crane
